Interns like myself are still young and are new to the work that many of our other counselors have been doing for years. The best thing about that is that the counselors become friends of the women and they come back to either gladly look to us for help or to just visit and catch up at the centers. At the Broklyn Center, I saw a woman that Linda had worked with ten years ago, her and her twin were pregnant at about the same time. They told us interns stories about their repeat visits, late night outings to get them help, and how thye would drive the doctor their crazy dealing with a girl he thought he had just seen.
I'm sure it happens to all the counselors at some point. At the Queens Center, we were visted by two mothers one of whom was 8 months pregnant with two girls and the other brought her three children. It took up the last hour and a half talking to them since we didn't have any other girls in the late afternoon.
In my own experience I get to see the changed attitudes of the women change from the time they came to when they leave, happier people. They laugh, they joke, and they agree with our positions on the terrible abortion industry. I may not do this work full-time, but I certainly will be willing to come back to visit and somehow contribute to life saving work if only to look forward to seeing a changed life from about now once again.
