I found this
phrase in the Holocaust museum of Washington Dc during our weekend there with
some of the interns that now are split in Baltimore or Philadelphia for three
weeks.
This phrase
in my opinion represents perfectly the situation that girls have to affront every
time that they want to have an abortion. Why? Because many of them don’t have “the four
legs of the life”: faith, family support, resources and education.
So when they
get pregnant they start thinking about materials things: “I do not have enough money
for feed my kid”, “I do not have a permanent job and they will not accept my
pregnancy” etc. It is totally normal to have this thoughts but the problem is
not the lack of resources because there are many organizations than can help
this women to get what they need.
The second
thought is correlate to family support
and the ideas that they make in their brains are: “My boyfriend broke up with
me when I told him about my pregnancy”, “I live alone, I do not have any
relatives who can help me with my kid” and many other things that we are
founding out with this internship. It is
true that family is one of the precious things that we have in live, but if you
are alone, there are places like ALPHA (organization prolife in Philadelphia)
that can be like the family support that they never had.
In my opinion
the main problem is the lack of education in the modern society that we live.
The government and the public schools don’t provide any information about the consequences
and risks of taking an abortion. They don’t teach stuff like abstinence or the
importance of the waiting. They just offer pills or condoms to “prevent” the
pregnancy. And this is not working and they don’t want to stop this, they just
want to earn all the money that they can and be happy in their unreal world.
The last
leg is faith. In my opinion, faith is the best “tool” for everything and it can
help you with the others legs. For example, if in the school you didn’t receive
good education, you can find all the information and more that you need in the
catechism of the Catholic Church. Also if your family support is off, God is
your father and He is always taking care of you, and we can´t forget our Mother
Mary.
