Mercy Season

"The quality of mercy is not strain'd,

It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven

Upon the place beneath : it is twice blest;

It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:

'Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes

The throned monarch better than his crown;

His sceptre shows the force of temporal power

The attribute to awe and majesty,

Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings;

But mercy is above this sceptre sway;

It is enthroned in the hearts of kings;

it is and attribute to God himself;

And earthly power doth then show likest God's

When mercy seasons justice. Therefore, Jew,

Though justice be thy plea, consider this.

That, in the course of justice, none of us

Should see salvation: we do pray for mercy;

And that same prayer doth teach us all to render

The deeds of mercy..."

Summer of Mercy 2.0 has made great strides. There have been no arrests, contrasted to the thousands of arrests at the previous Summer of Mercy twenty years ago. Additionally, the days have been full of prayer and public witness that has engaged the pro-choice demonstrators and the community at large. Lastly, for nine days no killing of innocent babies is going to happen at the abortion facility of LeRoy Carhart, one of our country's most prominent late term abortionist.

Something that is most talked about at the rallies is the theme of this weeks, and that is mercy. The pro-life community is constantly praying for mercy for abortionists, post-abortive women, pro-choicers, and ourselves as we seek forgiveness and healing form this evil sin that has prevailed in our country for too long. For it is only through mercy that this work can be accomplished. Mercy is a blessing that only God can impart to us. As Shakespeare's character Portia said in his work The Merchant of Venice, "It is an attribute to God himself; and earthly power doth then show likest God's when mercy seasons justice...we do pray for mercy."
