It can be really difficult trying to convince women who have already had abortions not to have another. I spoke to a young girl who had suffered physically and mentally after having a 2 surgical abortions. She experienced a great deal of pain for two months after the procedure, and continues to have distressing dreams. However she still wanted another abortion for the same reasons as before: a low income, no support from the father, she thought she was too young and felt ashamed to admit to her family she was pregnant. After asking her a number of questions she began to doubt her choice. Her own answers helped her realise the abortion had not helped her in any way; it was just a temporary 'solution' and she had really done more damage to herself. Although she was left undecided I was glad she at least had these doubts in her mind and hope they were enough to help her make the right decision this time round.
