Life lessons

This week I met a brave young mother who was undecided about keeping her baby. When she was 15 she became pregnant and chose to have her son who is now 9. She said that decision changed her life and was the best one she ever made.

Everything was going so well for her; she gained a great job, had her own apartment and her once unstable family was brought closer together by the birth of her son. Suddenly now things began to go downhill and she recently lost her apartment and is jobless.

Being pregnant again just added to her stress and she didn't know how she could bring a child into the world this time around. What was unique about this case was I barely had to do any counselling at all. As the young woman told me all about her life she described the joy that came out of having her own child, even when she thought she could never do it all those years ago, she started to realise how even in the most desperate situations no woman really wants to abort their child; there are always other deeper problems that need to be solved.

It was touching listening to hear realise this child had been sent as a blessing to resolve her problems now, just as her son was years ago. It's amazing how she managed to somehow counsel herself by just reflecting on her past and how God provides.
