Terri Schiavo

The conference that impressed me so much in Washington was the one given by Bobby Schindler, the brother of Terri Schiavo, an american woman who entered a vegetative state in 1990 for undetermined reasons. After fifteen yeras, his husband expressed his opinion that there was no hope of rehabilitation, so he finally decided to not keep Terri alive through unnatural, mechanical means.

Terri´s case became very popular in the United States. Seven years later, her brother leads now a prolife organization called Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network, which works to protect the life of the medically vulnerable and disabled from the thrat of euthanasia.

His amazing words made me reflect and I came to the conclusion that being prolife does not mean suppoting life only in an abortion. Being prolife entails also defending the dignity of disabled people. Here we find the euthanasia issue.
