Diversity

The internship is very nice because every day we go to different offices or clinics so you never get bored! Also in every place you find different ways of work, different interns, workers and mostly different kind of women who come to have an appointment; they are from different places, races, religions, cultures, countries, education, etc.

It's true that it is very significant that the majority of them have a similar profile, for example, they don't use to be very educated people in the sense they have not finished their studies or they haven't even studied any kind of school. Also they usually don't know about how their body works, even if they are pregnant or have been pregnant before. They get surprised when they watch any movie about the procedures of abortion or when they learn new things about their pregnancy or about how their baby is, its size, etc.

We also learn a lot through them. Each one is so different that they have very different stories of their lifes and that is something very new every day in our work!

The first step

It has passed just a couple of weeks that I left my internship. Right now it comes to my mind the first day... I arrived exactly to NYC at noon. It was a quiet flight but the first thing I wanted to do when the plane landed was to get home there, leave my luggage and rest for a while. However, it was not like that...

The first thing I did when we arrived was to get to the office. We were told some things about the way of working there. Then we met María and another woman who was working there as well. They were very kind. They showed us the office, they told us about their work that day... Actually it was very busy that day. They taught us how counseling women, how to help them with some movies, information and mostly how to care of them in several different situations.

But I was still thinking in my nap... However, in that moment I learnt something: these two people had been very busy that day and, even they were tired they kept the energy to bring a new smile to the next woman coming that afternoon. Here, I learnt that the first step is forgetting one self, even in the tiredness in order to give back to others. My attitude would be very important in my work and these two people taught us the most important thing: their very good attitude and disposition.

ONE DOUBT

Is the abortion one of the contraceptive methods?

When I was in Spain and my first weeks here, I supposed, that if I make for many people this question, the answer of them, it would been no.

However during this time in EMC, and with my experiences about different case. Really I don´t know if I have changed my opinion about this. I want say that if now, and here, if I make the question, I don´t know which would be the answer.

When a person meets with different women that they have had three or two abortions and  they are looking their next. It easy think that their answer is yes. Yes, the abortion is one contraceptive method. That young women enter to the EMC office with two o three abortion in the past, all this wants say that there is a big problem with their sexual education.

You can know this or read about these problems. However when you are seeing this near, impresses and startles.

THE TOYS!

THE TOYS!

Yesterday the toys arrived to the EMC offices. It was a great moment. And we are very grateful with the people did that it is possible. Thanks!

When the toys arrived to the different offices, we started to call the EMC mothers. We know that it is not sufficient and that the mothers need more things, but I am sure that this night, this will do that the children will be more happy.

This date is a good moment for giving something without asking for anything in return, and also a good time for give love.

Merry Christmas!

Help her, help her!

It was a beautiful day. That day I was sent to Bronx Office to learn more about the work we had to do through our internship. After some days watching and listening that day I was told to counsel a woman who had just entered in the office. I didn't really know how to do something to help her... I simply knew I had to help the one who was just in front of me. It was the first time I was counseling someone alone...

I said to myself. "let's listen to her". And that's it. She started to tell me about her life, her family, her problems... She told me she had enough problems and she wanted to abort the baby. Having regard all about her situation I saw my opportunity to tell her something. I don't even remember what I said to her but suddenly she started to cry...

She said she was very sad. She really didn't want to abort him. Finally she surprised me telling she will keep the baby! Then she took an appointment for having a sonogram in some days. I concluded how important the support from our family is to ahead a hard situation and she didn't have any in that moment. She just needed to talk about it with someone and receive any support.

THE BLESSING

In Baltimore we have meet a nice couple. He is a good man and we can say this because we passed time with him. Moreover, because he is friend of one excellent person. She is one fighter and nice woman.

She lost her baby two years ago, on August. She was sad and passed bad times. However during a dinner she was happy and said us something. ¨We are very happy because we are waiting a baby¨ She is pregnant. We could see her very gratefully.

Two days ago she sent us the first picture of her Baby. We are very happy for them. And she said us, ¨My baby will born on August, the same month when I lost my baby. I´m gratefull to God for this gift, this is a godsend. God has given me the baby that I lost on the same month¨.

God bless them!

PLANNED PARENTHOOD II - BALTIMORE

Buenas sensaciones!!

BALTIMORE - PLACES TO VISIT

Things of Baltimore!

If there is one building in Baltimore that I like... It was the Cathedral.

¨The Baltimore Basilica, America´s First Cathedral¨

It is modest, simple, welcoming, friendly.

I liked very much!

Only I upload pictures of inside the Cathedral and who want curiosity of this, will have to visit it.

Also very close to the Cathedral is a nice little park.

It is dedicated to Pope John Paul II, who visited the city on October 8, 1995.

¨Catholics of America! Always be guided by the truth - by the truth about God who created and redeemed us, and by the truth about the human person, made in the image and likeness of God and destined for a glorious fulfillment in the Kingdom to come. Always be convincing witnesses to the truth. "Stir into a flame the gift of God" that has been bestowed upon you in baptism. Light your nation - light the world - with the power of that flame! Amen.¨

Pope John Paul II
Homily at the Papal Mass at Oriole Park at Camden Yards

If you go to Baltimore is very recommendable visit these two places

WARD MILES - FIRST YEAR

¨A year from yesterday Ward came home
32 years from today his mother was born
I made this for both of these special days as a surprise for his mother, Lyndsey
This is a story of a mother’s love for her baby…
Many of you have not seen Ward like this. You have seen pictures. You have read a lot of posts. But, I think this video will show just how small he was when he was born, and how sick he was. I didn’t hold back when editing. I didn’t just include cute clips. There are some nasty moments. The reason being, Iwanted people to see how bad he looked, so that when they look at him today they get a better sense of how far he has come. It is truly a miracle and we thank God daily for getting him to where he is!
I also want to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff all over the world that make it their life’s mission to help babies get better! It’s because of you that my son ever stood a chance to make it home!

BALTIMORE

Baltimore.

EMC is not only in NY. And for this reason, we (Belia and Javi) have had the opportunity of help many women in this city. It was a great experience. All in Baltimore was a great experience. Since the first day moment when we met S.P.  The man who take us in his home. He is an excellent man and we want send him a big greeting from here . We are very grateful for this time with him.

Baltimore is nice and has a great port and nice buildings and the best aquarium of EEUU. But there is a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic and usually we went to talk with the women that wanted to enter to this clinic. And we had  nice experience with these women that went to EMC office in the port.

They changed their opinion!

Also we met with J and J, they are good pro-life, fighters men and tireless. Moreover we were with them in two busy and cold winter days.

Furthermore we are very happy because we could meet with many friends of S.P. They are nice persons and they helped us a lot. Always we will have an unbeatable memory.

MY COLLEAGUE

Today I will introduce ''The Pamphlet''.
It is my colleague in the cold morning in front of abortion clinics door. In my opinion it's one of the best tool with a person can be in front of this clinics also of course the rosary and a big smile.

In this pamphlet the women can see the EMC offices address, offices telephone numbers, pictures of the pregnant development, abortion risks, reflections, and it also as numbers if you need help after the abortion.
Moreover there are EMC free alternatives: free pregnancy test, free ultrasounds, counseling, referrals. And information about the adoption.
Also I use this other pamphlet. These I like too because is more direct and depend of the situation can be very useful.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD - BALTIMORE

Hola amigos,

THE BABY COT

The November 15, Javier and I were in  Bronx Office. When the day was ending, a woman arrived. Her name is R.G.

R.G. 6 months before, came our office. She wanted an abortion. K worked with her, Finally, R.G. changed her decission. She is going to keep the baby.

Now she is 8 months, and she came asking for a cot. Luckily we had one in the warehouse. We help her bring to her house.

This cot could help the woman. She was very happy and gratefully.

MY FIRST DAY

Hi people!

My first experience in EMC was the first day! Yes, the first day! And this was a great experience!

The bell door rang, and one mother with her children came in to  the Bronx office. She only wants one thing... SAY THANKS!

She came because wanted say thank you to one spanish intern who two years ago listened her and talked her. This intern changed her life, and for this reason there is one more person in the world.

I am sure that when the intern will see the picture, she will be very happy!

THE BABY HAND

My first weeks I could spend in Brooklyng Office.

One day a girl came to our office who wanted an abortion. She didn't know how many weeks she was at this moment.

In the sonogram, we could saw a Big Baby Boy, with Jamaican music in the room. The baby didn't stopped dancing. When the mother touched her womb during the sonogram, the baby took his hand with the mother's hand.

This moment was unique.

Sometimes, the baby is who care the mother.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

RECOMENDACION!!!!

THE BIOLOGY OF PRENATAL DEVELOPMENT (NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC).

(It describes human prenatal development through all 38 weeks of pregnancy, emphasizing the first trimester developmental period when all body systems and more than 90 percent of body parts emerge and begin to function).

There is light after the tunnel

I arrived to NYC two weeks ago. How can I summarize all the things I have experienced until now? There are no words to define how amazing working at EMC is being. Yesterday, a young girl came to the Queens office looking for the abortion pill. She was only 17 years old. Pamela was scared and confused. She was worried about her parents because they didn’t know that she was pregnant. She was the youngest of a big family with ten brothers and sisters. Her father, actually, had passed away several years ago, and her mom was 72 years old. She didn’t feel good about what her family, specially her mom, would think about her… We talk to her, we tried to calm her and we encourage Pamela to talk to her mother. We encourage her to keep the baby.... She was catholic, so we also explained her that the baby was a son of God. She went out of the office with the propose of keeping the baby and talk to her mom about all. This is the best gift I have had until now.

TELL ME…WHAT DO I DESERVE?

Here's a story that is worth reading...
Abby Johnson

I am vehemently against the death penalty. Now stay with me…this is not a post about my opinion regarding that. You can disagree or agree with me on that some other time. I did want to share a little bit about why I take the words of prolifers so seriously. I have heard so much vitriol spewed from the mouths of “Christian prolifers” since the Gosnell trial has concluded. I feel like I must address it.
When I was confirmed as a Catholic, I chose Mary Magdalene as my confirmation saint. I felt an immediate connection to her. She had sinned so much…and was forgiven in even greater amounts. She knew she didn’t deserve forgiveness…but she received it anyway. And because of this, she clung to Christ. She knew she was nothing without Him.
I have also done my fair share of sinning. And I have also been forgiven much more than I deserve. I abused and betrayed women in the worst possible way. I convinced them to kill their children. Did I slit the necks of children after they were born? No. But, I was an accomplice to murder. Thousands of times…women I knew, women I didn’t, my friends, even my family. I lied to people. I lied to women when they came to me for accurate information. I was among the worst sinners…those that help to take and destroy life. I am no better than Kermit Gosnell.
I took my own children’s lives…twice. Not because I was coerced. Not because I didn’t know better. But because I thought children would be an inconvenience to my lifestyle. I am responsible for their deaths…no one else.
So when someone talks about Gosnell and says things like, “murderers and people like him don’t deserve to breathe the same air as I do,” or “I hope he burns in hell,” it hurts a little. Because that was me. But I am still here…breathing that same air…and trying to spend my life righting my wrongs. And it’s not just me. I know they hurt others like me, as well. People who have left the abortion industry and will work every day to recover from their sins. People who are still in the industry and think they will be shunned by the pro-life movement…maybe they would reach out to us if they knew we would accept them. I am always terrified that clinic workers will see some of the words from prolifers. I have been told by several former workers that they will NEVER come forward with their stories because they are so scared of how they will be treated by us…by US…the supposed “Christian” movement. Their fears are real AND legitimate.
I know some will say, “but you repented, that is the difference.” But what if I hadn’t…not yet. What if I was still inside the abortion industry? What if I was still an accomplice to murder? What if it took me longer to realize the truth? Do I deserve to die? Are we saying repentance is about our timing? Certainly, it is not about us. It about God and His perfect timing.
Right now, I shouldn’t be in this movement. I should be the COO of the 4th largest revenue generating Planned Parenthood affiliate in the country. I should be overseeing the largest abortion facility in the Western Hemisphere. I should be making 6 times the amount of money that I make in the pro-life movement. But I’m not. Why? Because of forgiveness. Because of mercy. Because of grace. Because of God. And because of REAL pro-lifers. The people I turned to accepted me for me…baggage and all. They knew that I was a broken person, and they loved me anyway. They knew I needed significant healing, and they helped to provide it.
I remember one story in particular which always makes me tear up when I think about it. One of the ladies, Karen, that immediately befriended me after I left Planned Parenthood was asked a question by a reporter. He asked her, “So, what was Abby like before she became pro-life? I mean, how nasty was she?” Karen’s answer was so genuine, and so Christ-like. She simply said, “I don’t remember that person. She is a new creation in Christ. I won’t talk about her past, I only want to talk about her future.” Wow. What grace. What forgiveness. She could have really spilled the beans on me, but she chose not to. Why? Because she truly loved me…and she always had, even while I was working at Planned Parenthood. She always believed the best in me, always believed that my conversion would happen.
It was Christ who changed me. It was the merciful and compassionate words of His people. It was no condemnation. It was not prayers that I would burn in hell. It was not those who yelled and called me names. It was the words of people like Karen. Those who prayed that I would, one day, walk out of that clinic. Those who had constant faith…even when that faith was a struggle to have. I am here because of THEM and because of their Christ-like witness.
Don’t we want that for every abortion clinic worker and abortion provider? Don’t we want that for Kermit Gosnell? I smile every time I imagine his conversion. What a heavenly victory that will be! Can it happen? If you say no, then you do not know the God that I do. My God is in the business of miracles. And my God does not want anyone to suffer in hell. He wants ALL of his children to come to him…yes, even those of us “monsters” that are in or have been in the abortion industry.
Hate comes from hell. Mercy comes from Christ. When we have hate in our hearts, our spirits are damaged. Be careful with your words. Not only are you a living witness of Christ and His truth, but you could put your own soul at risk. “Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.” 1 John 3:15 When we hate, we are no better than those who kill.
I am not the sweetest person. I’m not the one who catches all the flies with honey…sometimes I am all vinegar. What do you expect? You expect the most tender hearted to work in the abortion industry? Maybe we aren’t like all of you. Maybe we aren’t the most kind-hearted. Maybe you don’t understand how we could do what we have done. But those of us that leave…we are fighters. We are willing to take hits for our former sins. We are willing to stand up in places that are uncomfortable. We are willing to be bruised by others because we know that we have to…we know that will be the price we pay…it just hurts more when the bruises come from those who should be rejoicing in our repentance. We are passionate. We don’t waste time beating around the bush…not when it comes to life…especially the lives that we helped take.
Those of us that have worked in the industry all live our lives with a constant burden. One that will not be free from us until we reach heaven. We can’t let our burden slide off of our shoulders…it is what keeps us on fire. It reminds us of why we fight so hard. We have seen death and evil in a way that most haven’t…and we participated. We are forgiven.
So, should I be able to “breathe the same air as you?” That’s not really up to me to decide. But if you say things like that, know that a small piece of our heart is broken, and I have to believe that it grieves Christ. But even if you break our hearts, we forgive you. Even if you bruise us, we forgive you. He who has been forgiven much, loves much. And we love a lot. I am eagerly awaiting the day when I can call Kermit Gosnell a former and REPENTANT abortion provider.

Now my tears are tears of joy

I have two more weeks left in the United States and now it’s time to think. What have I learned from this experience? How am I going to get to the others this message of life?

I already know that   some friends will ask me about what I have done here and if I think it is worthy to spend two months of my summer doing prolife activities. Possibly, I will answer them with this story.

One day we were at Stanton arranging things to close the office because it was the end of the workday. Then, a young girl arrived. She said that she had been that morning in Planned Parenthood (right next door to us) asking for an abortion but she hadn’t 600$ to pay for it. She also said that in her way back home, crying because of her situation, she decided to come to Stanton asking for help. At the middle of this story she started crying. We could only offer her some counseling so that’s what we did. After some time talking she ended saying:
“I know that abortion is killing my baby. I know that it is not right, but truly everybody is encouraging me to take an abortion and I don’t have any support. Until now I thought I was alone. Now I know that I was not right, in fact, God is with me. And I won’t let the evil to win this battle, to win this baby."

This young lady went out of the office really happy and giving a lot of thanks and saying: Now my tears are tears of joy.
