Adios!!

This is my last blog. I've been here for seven weeks, from july 9th till august 28th, almost my whole summer break. Someone could think that I should have done other things, like going with my family to the beach, or being in my hometown just resting, or going out with my friends; like many of the people at age usually do. But this has been one of the best summers ever for me.

I have met a lot of incredible people: the interns, the offices leaders (Linda, Liz, Carmen, Jowell, Rosanna, July), and many women who needed help. I also have learnt many important things: good values of the life and family, the importance of being pro-life, how to treat helpless pregnant women... and how to life in the same house with 20 spanish and american young people!

We also have had a lot of fun. The trips and the activities that Chris invite us were awesome. It was the best way to rest from the work and to know the rest of the people were I was working with.

I've also made many friends that I hope to have forever.

My american adventure for the summer '11 is coming to and end but I'm sure that I will never forget it! Thank you!

This incredible people

This last week has been my seventh week. During this time I have had the opportunity to have a lot of good experiences, to help many women, to meet other interns from Spain and USA and to work with some extraordinay people.

This people: Liz, Linda, Kathy, Rosanna, Jowel and July are the full time workers of the EMC Frontline Centers. They are always there, day after day, on the officines of Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn doing counceling or in Emily's or Jerome Avenue doing street work. They spend 8 hours daily from monday to saturday all the year trying to help young women who don't know enought about the abortion.

We, the interns spend here just for one or two months. That's almost all our summer holiday time. And we think that it is a lot of time and also that is a good experience that change our lives. So I can't imagine how would they feell this people. They our heroes and our example to follow. Thank you!

New people, new babies saved

This week we have we welcomed four new people into the Bronx's Lifehouse. There are four Spanish girls: Paloma, from Madrid; Camino, from Pamplona and two friends from Barcelona: Lis and Ana.

They are here for a month and they are ready to save lives here in NYC. They all are pro-life and they know the good values of the life, charity and family. When they arrived they were really exited about helping young women, being in New York and knowing people like them, who spend their summer time working in the Bronx, Queens and Brookling trying to prevent abortion.

They all enjoyed their first day. They spent it learning and getting to know the workers and the offices where we help, day after day, pregnant women who need help or are not sure of having the baby. At the end of the day, when we were having the dinner, they told us their impressions about this new experience that was just started. They all where impressed with the work done in the offices and happy with being doing this for a short time.

As everyone can see, we are having a really good time here in the Bronx Lifehouse. When we arrived we didn't know each other, but now we all are friends. That's why I encourage all young people who are thinking about volunteering, to come here and help the pro-life movement in the capital of abortion. It would be a experience that will never be forgotten.

A good Pro-Life movie

22 weeks

Yesterday I saw a good movie. I was at Bronx office with Lizz and a young couple. The woman was pregnant and when they arrive, they wanted to abort their baby. Finally, after the counceling they change their mind and decided to keep the baby. At one moment, the woman decided to talk only with Lizz, so I spent few minutes with the boyfriend taking about his life, what he thought about the abortion, about his family... Then, he asked me to tell him some examples of the risks of having an abortion.

I told many of that I know. But later, we saw a good pro-life short movie. It's 22 weeks and it's about one girl who has an wrong made abortion. This film is really shocking and I didn't seen before I saw in Bronx EMC office. I would recomend to everyone to know about a true story that took place in Orlando in 2005. This film show how an abortion can be risky for women and how bad time can have women when they see their child diying in their hands.

One day at Emily's

Today I've been at Dr. Emily's abortion center. I went with another two interns of the Bronx's Lifehouse at 7.30 pm. We think that today would be a normal day and that we would't have too much work to do trying to counseling women. We thought that we will get bored. But it has not been like that.

We have work hard and we have talk with many women who went to the Dr. Emily's abortion center. Five of them went to our van to have sonograms and, after had a counseling with them, all of them has decided to keep their babies. The girls were very grateful to us, and they said that we were doing a good work.

We also give some pamphlets to other women of the neighborhood and answer some questions that people ask us on the street.

It seems that today is much better day that we thought at early morning...

Why I'm Pro-Life

Yesterday I went to the Priest for Life's headquarters in Staten Island, NYC. After having a tour by the building, the filmed us in a short interview. What they wanted to know was the reasons of why we are prolife. I tried to do my best, but I would like to repeat again here.

First of all, I'm pro-life because I believe in the life. It's sounds weird, I know, but that's true. I believe in the life that God gave us and I truly believe that no one can remove it. It's God who decided when is our time to born and when is our time to pass away.

I'm pro-life because I've seen what it's an abortion. And I can assure that is no good. Never, under any circumstances, I'seen how women walk outside of the abortion centers alone, crying, scared, shaking... I don't know any woman who is proud of having an abortion. No one.

I'm pro-life because I don't trust pro-choice people. I don't judge them, but they don't really know what a real abortion is. They just believe in fake freedom of women to choose in their body. And what about the baby's choice? Who takes care about them?

These are many of my reasons to be pro-life. I have much more, but these are the most important reasons.

American freedom

I'm a foreigner here. I'm for another country and I have another main language, culture, life-style... I love to travel and knowing other cultures. And, of course, I love being in America.

One thing what impressed me mots of this country is the freedom. There is freedom everywhere and people really believe in that freedom. Here, people has freedom to speak, to be religious or not, to decide... In Europe, we should learn something about this...

But there is a freedom that I missed. The freedom to life of the babies that there are aborted. Obviously, this freedom can't be founded at any place where abortion is legal. But, here, in "the land of freedom" I think that it should be very strong. I think that President Obama is completely wrong when he claims that he is looking for the freedom of all the americans. An what about those millions of americans that where killed by the laws he passed? I hope the next president is genuinely seeking freedom for ALL Americans.

Germantown

Last week I spend few days in a small town working against the abortion. The town was Germantown, in the state of Maryland. Me and another four interns of the Bronx’s Lifehouse went there to help local citizens in their fight against a abortion center. This abortion center is ruled by a doctor called LeRoy Carhart. He is one of the most famous (sadly) abortionist in America and he has been involved in judicial issues because of his theories. He spends four days per week commiting late-tern abotions in Germantown.

After working hard for many years, the local people achieve Dr. Carhart to close his abortion center for a week. Last week there weren’t any children murders in Germantown. But the work was and is not ended. People from everywhere come to show their happiness for the end, just for a week, of the work in that abortion clinic. And during the hole week, pro-life people spend many hours in front of the abortion center showing pro-life pictures and sings and praying for the children who have been killed in the abortion center and for the people working there.

There were also pro-choice people. But they were fewer than us and we could see how people from the town was not supponting their theories.

This new experience show me how pro-life people work in other places. Also, I’ve learn that we are not alone, and that we are much stronger that we thought.

To safe a life

Last week I saw the movie “To safe a life”. I didn’t know anything about this film before I saw. I was with many friends and we choose to see this movie betwen a lot. We thought that it would be the typical teen american movie and it would be a little superficial. But it wasn’t.

“To safe a life” is a interesting story about the life, the faith, the teenagers worries and the family relations and friendships. I was really surprised of the strength with the characters and the plot are showed and related in the movie.

In this movie you can apreciate the difficulties and worries of a succesful teenager who is very popular in his high school but he suddenly discovers the faith. He changes completely his mind in a complicated enviroment for his new thoughs. Because of this, the people that surrended him also change.

After seen the movie, I would recomend to everyone to wacth it. It is very interesting and it could be a good example for a lot of people. It woul also could be used to understand the importance of the faith and of the pro-life movement.

The Special People

There are a lot of kinds of people. And almost everyone develops their personality while their are growing up. There are important influences from the environment, the place, people (family and friends), education, the economic situation, etc... But, finally, all of us choose the way that we want to act, to have relationships, to have hobbies, to plan our future...

But there are also many people that cannot choose any of that. Those are the people with disabilities, physical or mental. These special people are as much a person as any of us and they have to be treated as equals. So they are not less or inferior. And of course, they have the same right to live that other babies do. It is very common that many women who want to abort their babies and know that the baby is coming with any disability, they want the abortion much more. That's complete nonsense.

These special people need to be loved more than anyone else. Although they can't respond to us in the same way, they really appreciate demonstrations of love and they really need to feel people's love around them. That's why we cannot consider these special people less than us and it's a crime to kill them before they born.

Why?

Why are we doing this? Why are we, some young college students, taking time of our summer to fight against the abortion instead of going on vacation with our friends or family? Why do we spend a lot of money to come here from Spain?

These are some of the big amount of questions that some of my relatives or friends have asked me in the last few weeks. But I'm not the only one: other internships of the Bronx Lifehouse also have been asked on the same way. And we all answer the same: because we want to.

We want to help poor people. We want to give information to those who doesn’t know what is a real abortion. We want to support the people who say no to this crime. We want to show our rejection to the abortion clinics. We want to play and enjoy of the child who could be dead many years ago. We want to give a good life to that mother who wants to grow up her baby but she can’t because she has no job, clothes, a apartment… We want to try to shut up those who try to confuse and lie to pregnant women just to take their money. We want to explain that the life is not a choice, it’s a right. For all of us. Since the moment of our coception.

I hope that these words could answer to those who can’t understand our objective: save as many lives as we can. Because life is the most value thing that it has been given to us. We have to communicate this on the best way we can.

Joreme Avenue

This week we have started working on the street in a new place: Jerome Avenue, on The Bronx. There is a Pregnancy Center there, where Cathy works hard everyday counseling and helping girls about their pregnancy and the life they have inside them.

We were not really sure about how could it be this new experience. We have never been on that part of The Bronx living information to the citizens at the street and we were worried about maybe no one could come to us to ask. Or that we wouldn’t be welcome on the neighborhood. Or that we would have troubles for being at the street…

But nothing of that happened. Since the first day, we have be supported by the citizens on Jerome Avenue. Almost everyone was proud and happy with the idea that we were there to help women. A lot of people came to ask for information and interested by what we were saying. A have many good examples.

A young latin-american woman was really surprised by the size of the 12 weeks baby model. She told me that she thought about having abortion of her lovely daughter, Marlene, when she was pregnant of 12 weeks. Another woman explained to her sons what we were doing there and she congratulated us for being there. A cuban man spent a few minutes taking with us about how bad was the abortion in NYC. A deaf-dumb girl was really happy of found us on the street and she said that she would come again with more friends.

Those are just a few of an amount of good examples. But we really appreciate these samples of support.

Hola everyone;

My name is Gabriel Muzás and I have just finished a journalism degree at the University of Navarre, in Pamplona, Spain. However, my hometown is Vitoria, a small city in the north of Spain.

I have a big family: I'm the oldest of three brothes and two sisters. We all know the good values of life, family and charity.

For a long time I have been looking for a volunteering possibility to do in the summer. Last year, a friend of mine who came to EMC two years ago told me about this intership program. I found it interesting from the first time and it seemed to me a good way to help people to know the importance of the life.

I'm very exited to start working at EMC at New York. I'm sure that this is going to be a good summer and an important time for me to help and learn at the same time.
