Last week I was in the Queens office when one of Carolina's turn-arounds came in to visit. She first came in to the center when she was 7 weeks pregnant, so back around the middle of February. She was confused and scared because of her situation, like so many other girls who come into our offices. She was from Colombia, and her husband, who she married when she was 17, lived in New York. On her first day here in the city, he beat and raped her. She left him right away and was homeless for a while before she began a cleaning job, and eventually she started getting clients to do hair and makeup. It was at this point that she came in to the Queens office. After hearing the baby's heart beat and seeing Choice Blues, she decided she wanted to keep her baby.
Baby Denzel arrived on September 19, weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces. Here he is with his beautiful mother, 21 days later!
