VOLUNTEERS

Suena el despertador, es muy temprano, y apenas ha salido el sol. Es la hora de levantarnos, arreglarnos, desayunar (a toda velocidad) y hacernos un sandwich para comer. Asi es el inicio de nuestra jornada diaria de trabajo que ya ha comenzado desde bien temprano.

Nuestro destino no siempre es el mismo, podemos ir a cualquiera de las diferentes oficinas de EMC: en el Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens o New Jersey o nos puede tocar hacer sidewalking (ir a las puertas de las clinicas abortistas para repartir panfletos y tratar de hablar con las mujeres que asisten alli para evitar que finalmente aborten), pero, esto no lo sabremos hasta el final del dia.

Muchas mañanas estamos agotados; parece que nuestro cuerpo se rinde a seguir un dia mas esta ardua rutina en una epoca invernal con muuucho frio (aunque ya parece que las temperaturas han subido levemente).

Estamos cansados porque apenas tenemos tiempo de descanso, nuestra jornada laboral es de 6 dias (48 h semanales), nos levantamos muy temprano (incluso los sabados) y a veces resulta un trabajo poco agradecido en diferentes aspectos. Aunque luego pensamos en aquellas mujeres a las que hemos conseguido ayudar, que han seguido adelante con su embarazo y han decidido mantener el bebe, otras a las que les hemos abierto los ojos para que sean conscientes de lo que hacen, y aquellas que vendran a la oficina en el dia presente. Quizas estas son las razones por las que cada dia seguimos trabajando en New York, en EMC Pregnancy Center. 

Estamos lejos de casa, a miles de km de distancia (un Oceano separa nuestro pais de nuestra ubicacion actual), echamos de menos a nuestra familia, amigos, seres queridos, y tambien nuestras costumbres y cultura made in Spain. 

Creo que es importante reconocer la labor que realizan los voluntarios en esta asociacion. Desde Spain hemos traido una actitud positiva, ilusion y ganas de ayudar y son necesarias que esas virtudes nos acompanen a lo largo de este recorrido, que en algunas ocasiones nos resulta mas costoso, porque no siempre lo recibimos de la otra parte. 

No obstante, sabemos que Dios tendra en cuenta la labor que estamos realizando durante estos meses (y es cierto que sin El, ni su ayuda nada hacemos, pero pienso que esto no esta pagado con dinero). Tampoco podemos olvidar, a esos benefactores que hacen posible la lucha contra el aborto)

The alarm clock is very early, and the sun still hasn't left. It's time to get up, get dressed, have breakfast (full speed) and make us a sandwich to have lunch. So that is the beginning of our daily work which has already begun from early.

Our destination isn't always the same, we can go to the different  EMC's offices: in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens or New Jersey or we can do sidewalking (going to the doors of abortion clinics to give pamphlets and try to talk to women who come there and preventing their abortions), but we will not know until the end of the day.

Many mornings we'are exhausted; it seems that our body surrenders to go one more day this arduous routine in a looooong winter season with cold (although it seems that temperatures have risen slightly).

We are tired because we barely have time to rest, our working time is 6 days (48 hours per week), we got up early (including Saturdays) and it is often a thankless job in different ways. But then we think about those women we have helped who are going to keep their pregnancy and to keep on their babies, others that we've opened their eyes to make them aware of what they do, and those who will come to the office this day. Maybe these are the reasons why we continue to work every day in New York, EMC Pregnancy Center.

We are far from home, thousands of miles away (the Atlantic Ocean separates our country from our current location), we miss our family, friends, loved ones, and also our customs and culture made in Spain.

I think it is important to recognize the work done by volunteers in this association. From Spain we have brought a positive attitude, illusion and desire to help and these virtues are necessary to accompany us along this journey, that sometimes we don't receive it from the other part.

However, we know that God knows our work during these months, and how strong is  (and it's true that without him, and his help we could't do anything, but I think this isn't paid with money). Neither we can't forget these benefactors who make possible the fight against abortion.

"Dear young people, only Jesus knows your hearts and your deepest desires. Only He, who has loved you to the end (cf. Jn 13,1), can fulfill your aspirations. His words are words of eternal life, words that give meaning to life. No one apart from Christ can give you true happiness "
