"Pensar alto, sentir hondo, hablar claro".

Very two different "A" words

It´s sad how when you tell girls that are thinking of abortion to consider adoption they say, I would never give my child away. I would always rather having an abortion...

You ask them why, and the answers are usually... How do I make sure he/she is living with the right family? How do I know she is fine? How is he/she going to come to me when he/she is all grown up ? What am I going to tell him/her? ...

Well, let´s forget about that, shall we? Here is what a little girl said when a classmate asked her what abortion was:

"Being adopted means, growing up in your mum´s heart instead of doing it in her womb"

Let´s listen to her.. She knows it all about adoption, and children do always tell the truth.

Giving back

Giving back. Busy schedules, hectic classes and constant complaining: those are the ingredients that make up the recipe of my school year in a big city like Madrid. When reaching the end of the last semester of class, you start analizing and reflecting on your past year while feeling the growing excitement that comes with kicking off the summer. You start making all sorts of different plans with friends, thinking that the more places you visit, the more you go clubbing or the more you kick back and relax on the beach, the better your summer will be but, at the end of the day, every year you do the same things. What is all of that worth? What is the point of always thinking about yourself, your needs and your own fun? Little did I know that all of these questions that were popping up in my head were going to end up taking me to the U.S to help out at Expectant Mother Care for the summer. What I did know was that I wanted to give back. I want to give back and learn from others. I want to make a difference to someone and know that I havent wasted my summer focusing only on me. My name is Virginia Libano and in this blog I will be keeping you posted on how all of that is working out for me.

Teresa Beamonte

My name is Teresa Beamonte. I am from Madrid where I've just finished my third year at college. I am studing Spanish linguistics and literature, to become a teacher.  I am the second of a big family. We are four girls and three boys.
I've never have doubt about the importance of defending life from the begining until the natural end but it became something really important in my life when my youngest sister was born. She has Down's Syndrome. When I look at her, I couldn't but think how lucky we are to have her with us. She is "la reina de la casa".

Even though she is a baby, she is just three years old, she spreads a lot of love and peace. I would like to encourage everybody who could be in this situation to keep their babies. It can be, it will be hard sometimes, but it really Works.

Life teachs you everyday

A step closer to them

What do the pregnant girls we meet have in common? Fear. For the time I’ve been here I have always seen that shadow behind the looking in their eyes. There was a women who had no job, neither had her boyfriend. I knew a girl, who was being pressured by her partner to have an abortion, although, as she said: “she was going to kill the baby”. I met a lady with three lovely children who had no resources, neither the time, to rise the forth one because she was studying for getting a better job. Someone told me about an underage girl who didn’t even know how to take care of a kid. And these are not only stories written in this sheet of paper, this are real stories of people that could be you.

Each woman has a different situation with a different way of going through it. Each girl that comes is beautiful and precious; even more than we are, because they are mothers. I heard once that “we are not here to help the babies but their mothers”. They need the hand of a friend to get out of the situation they are living.

Will we be able to do it?

The answer are only two words: loving them.

"Turn around"

New York City, I have missed you

Hey there, I'm blogging again. I don't know if you remember me, but I was an intern at EMC a couple of summers ago and actually, since i came back, I have been thinking about the possibility of returning, so here I am.

My experience with this internship was rather remarkable, it truly changed me. It made me realized how useful I could be to this women that come to the offices; for the first time in my life I was no longer a college student, or just a girl in my twenties. I was no longer Teresa Beitia; and for the first time in my life, I could be the real me. I could advice people who were really in trouble, who were desperate, who were hopeless. They let me help them and by doing so they helped me.

When I came back to Spain, I was so shocked and impressed I couldn't stop telling everybody, specially my friends and family who got sicked of it, how my summer had been at the pregnancy centers, at the abortion clinics entrance, walking down New York streets, meeting new friends and growing as a person. Nothing in my entire life has been as incredible as my two months at EMC, and that's why I am back.

Although I'm only staying for three weeks, the rest of the summer I'll be in LA, with another prolife asociation, helping women in the West Coast. So we will be in touch. Keep praying for me and for those girls and their babies.

Thank you! Its nice to be back
Hello!! My name is Javier and I am 22. I´m from Santander (Spain) but I´m living in Madrid since I started college, 3 years ago. I study a Marketing Degree in University Rey Juan Carlos. The next year I will be graduated and before that I wanted to do a volunteering activity and this is the reason why I came to New York. I was looking for different options but pro-life internship was the most atracttive for me. I hope I can help with this good cause and do my best. This weekend I will go with other volunteers to Washington. I arrived to the life house in Bronx last Wednesday so I promise next week I will report you about the different experiences I will live.

A REAL FRIEND

Most of the teenagers that come to the centers asking for an abortion come with one or two friends. An abortion is something that frignthens them and they need a friend to be near them. but these friends encourage them to have the abortion, they don't normally encourage them to keep the baby. However Jane came with a friend that really loved her, Kate. When Jane told Kate that she was pregnant and that she wanted to abort, Kate asked her to visit an EMC Center before.
Kate had known about EMC some weeks ago when she was in the same siyuation as Jane. Kate arrived to an EMC Center because she saw an advertisement in the train and she thought it was an abortion clinic. She changed her mind when she was told about the procedures and she saw a picture of a 9 weeks baby.
As every good friend should do, she wanted her friend to see the same she had seen. And this was how Kate save her friend's son's life, because Jane changed her mind after she had visited the EMC Center.

Hello! My name is Angela Cinelli I come from Madrid and I just finished my first year of business and marketing. I am nineteen years old and I arrived here a week ago and in only the two days before leaving to washington I learned more than I could have ever expected. I thought I knew moreless what I would see and hear while counseling, but I had no idea of the dosis of reality I was going to find. Mothers are the ones that have the absence of learning to love herselfs and we have to make them feel they are worth and so are their childs, always supporting them, and trying to show them the incredible gift each of the childs can be for their mother, families and the world.

"The happiness of giving is unmeasurable"

Presentation

My name is Fernando Guerra Pérez from Spain. I studied in the University of Navarra business and administration. I had been in many different states of America, also y Canada and Taiwan. One friend told me about this program in New York during my last semester of School, so I couldn´t wait for this opportunity and now I am here in NY with many friends working very hard every day saving babies in Bronx, Queens and many other different places around the States.

Off to New Jersey

Each day they appear more and more women with difficult situations. I can not explain only one as all seem so shocking. I thought I had to explain my experience with the 13 year old girl who came on Monday, but unfortunately, we are getting more girls than the expected of that age. All interns are shocked and that's why there is already a post about it so I'll explain the story of a girl who came yesterday.

She arrived with a suitcase that her boyfriend dragged into the foyer of the office that couldn't nearly fit through the door. Her boyfriend waited in the hall and she entered the room where we do the counseling. She felt really nervous. When we started talking, I suddenly had to give her tissues because she was in tears. She asked us when we were going to interrupt her pregnancy and said it had to be that day because she had to go to New Jersey to a friend's house. We told her that we did no abortions there but that we gave advise and all kind of helps to pregnant women, and that we were always looking for alternatives to abortion. Without losing her temper, like many others do, we continued our conversation.

She told us she had to go to New Jersey because her friend was going to let her get in her apartment for a time. Since January she has been out of home, her mother was abusive and had driven her away with only 21 years. She was terrified to her mother, very very much. Her father lived in a foreign country and her two brothers (smaller than her) were still staying with his mother.

She told us that the decision was more than taken and wanted to leave. She refused to give birth to a child, she didn't feel ready, and didn't want the relationship in between her and her baby to be ending up like the one she has with her mother.

However, I noticed that it was a very receptive girl and with a lot of heart. She listened until the end and took with her all the brochures we recommended.

Turn around

You're doing a good job".

13 years old.

The age range of the women who come to the office every day is very broad. The mean age be placed at around 22 years. But there's always an exception to the rule, and in this case average.

He opened the door. He was the friend of a small little woman. She was camouflaged behind him. She was so scared, in a silence I could hear the gnashing of teeth. She had a delay of six days in the period. She did not know this was normal at a young age, as only 13 years.

My heart was startled. I did not want this for her, the girl with scared face and a nice smile. I did not want that for any child her age. I had always said that we must live with the heart like children. And it is true, with 13 years pass from childhood to adolescence, but please these are closer to childhood than adulthood.

Why this girl and many others of his age were used in these concerns the best time of their lives? They could play tennis, running and other activities. However, she unconsciously decided to give his body and life to anyone.

The first was to try to reassure her. Thank God, the pregnancy test turned negative thought was slowly relaxing.

Then it was my moral duty to explain something as forgotten to explain at school as: ONE AND A FOREVER. I looked into her eyes, she smiled every time while I was speaking her, because she was discovering that the man who really loves her will wait fir her and she had to wait now.

Soldiers in the Army of God

Spiritual warfare.  First and foremost, that’s what we’re here for, and war is never a joke and never to be taken lightly.  I don’t know about the rest of you, but it’s easy for me to get comfortable because I’m not seeing the bloodshed and because most of the time it’s easy for me to forget the presence of the true Enemy, but this makes the war no less real and all the more dangerous.  In my humble opinion—through personal experience and accounts of personal experience—there are two things necessary and one thing extremely helpful if you want to—or feel you should—do this type of work: 1) You MUST remain close to God.  We are instruments of God’s work no matter what area we serve and if we allow ourselves to rust or gather cobwebs, we put obstacles in the way of His grace.  Soldiers must stay fit, and we are no exception.  Actively pursue virtues and conquer vices (even when they don’t seem to have anything to do with pro-life work—they do).  Go to confession frequently.  Pray even more than you would on a normal day at home.  Go to mass as often as possible.  The more fresh and healthy our soul is the more easily will God’s grace flow through us to the women we serve. Never leave home for battle without your sword, the rosary of our Lady.  No matter how incompetent you may feel at times (I know I do...), even if all you do is stand outside an abortion clinic and pray fervently you are already doing the best thing you can do for these women.
2) Can you walk into a room with a total stranger and truly, sincerely, earnestly love her? care about her? want the best for her?  Of course, this follows from #1, for the more we allow God to fill us with His love the more easily will this come to us.  Love is something these women are not receiving for the most part and even if our love comes beside stumbling words, if it’s sincere it will show.
3) Not necessary, but extremely helpful: Skill.  Watch people who have been doing this for years.  Pay attention when you’re shadowing.  Research your own information.  Commit pertinent knowledge to memory. Rehearse different counseling scenarios alone or with a friend.

Take these suggestions for what they’re worth.  It has been helpful to me to remind myself of them often and to try my best to follow them.

Great strength of a little life

New borough: Brooklyn

Today has been the best experience since i came to NYC. As long as i have been working in the EMC i only have been in the bronx, so i can say that the new borough has been a good change.

The office we have working into is in the top on the building and it was amazing how many girls just visited us with the idea of having an abortion. It was also impressive the way of working of the woman in charge of the office, Linda. She was so friendly with the women that everyone loves her. The usual words that she is used to say to the people are: i love you, honey, sweatheart....

It has been a good experience

Life

Hi everybody!

My name is Bea, I come from Barcelona and I am currently studying medicine. I arrived here last Friday, and the only thing I can think of now that I look back on everything that has happened is how much I have learnt. I came to New York, the city where the dreams come true, with great expectations. Which so far have had to change to some real ones. For instance, I thought our task should be saving the life of the babies that were not going to see the light and feel the air. But we are not here for that. It’s all about love. Every mother loves her child. That’s why being mother, having a baby, is such a blessing.

I hope my staying here and this experience help me getting closer to those mothers and their children. Today has been the first day that I have seen a sonography… the best part of it was the looking in the mothers eyes, even when we found out she was going to have twins!
Life is the most beautiful gift we have.

Maria

Hello everybody!

My name is María Araiz, I am from Bilbao (Spain) but I live in Pamplona since I started my degree. I am 20, and I am in second of pharmacy. Because of my degree I have always be interested on the importance of life, that is the principal reason why I want to help those people who are not conscious about it.

I arrived to the Lifehouse last Friday after a long trip and since Friday I have learned a lot. I would say that the main important idea to keep in our heads during these days of working is that we have to love the people, to love those girls who are in a difficult situation where they do not know what to do. I knew EMC internship programme thanks to few people I met in my uni. For the moment I am really happy and I would keep you inform about my experience!

Sofia

Hi my name is Sofia Fuente. I´m 20 years old and I live in Bilbao that is a city in the north of Spain.  I´m studying my second year of nursing. I arrived to the life house on Friday evening and I´m still learning how to work and handle all the things I´m learning.

I knew about the EMC intern because my oldest brother did it 4 years ago and his experience was brilliant. Also, I think that is a good opportunity to help women that need help and as I´m studying nursing I think I could do my best helping them and praying for them.  Instead of wasting my summer time, with this internship I´m going to work hard helping those who need to be heard. These days I´m becoming more conscious of the value of this work.

So, I will tell you every detail in this blog about this amazing opportunity!
