Bye Bye NY

This is my last post, I just want to say thank you very much for all I have learned in my six weeks of internship. I am very happy to have had the opportunity to join EMC because I love the work it's been doing here in New York, It's a difficult work but very important for the society.

Only for saving a life it will be worth being here for six weeks.

Although I have worked very hard here fighting against abortion, at the abortionist clinic Emily's and the pregnancy centers doing counseling, we still have a lot of work to do so I hope to continue this work and bring all I have learned to Spain in order to continue fighting until the end of abortion.

See you soon.

The Moment When They Realize the Truth

Yesterday I went to work at the Bronx center. We had the opportunity to do counseling with two women that were expecting a babies.
What really surprised me about those women was the fact that they really didn't know anything about abortion, what are the procedures were and what they really have inside is a baby not a blob of tissue as they thought before the counseling.

The first women was really impressed by the information we gave her about a real abortion, after that she was crying and said to us that she couldn't do this to her son, she was six weeks pregnant so we showed her how her baby was developed at that time.

Education

A few days ago, in one of the EMC centers I met a woman, she was thirty-six years old. She has been living with a partner for eleven years, during this time she had four natural abortions because she has a lot of health problems, like diabetes, high pressure, cholesterol and depression.

When she came to the center she was four weeks pregnant. She was asking for a “cleaning” (abortion). She thought that it was just a necessary medical procedure because she was not going to be able to carry through the pregnant and the birth of her child. Then we tried to show her what it actually is. After that she realized the reality of what “cleaning” really was.

So I concluded how important it is to have an education, to know the whole truth about what you are going to do with your life, your body and others'.

As Jesus tells us in the Gospel: The truth will set you free.

The Hand

Yesterday I went to Brooklyn and I saw something that really impressed me.

There was a girl who was pregnant and just wanted an abortion. After being counseled about abortion alternatives, talking about her problems and everything that made her feel worried, she agreed to do a sonogram. When she was looking at her baby she started to get stirred up. Then Linda started to pray that God would make the baby put his hand right on his mothers hand resting on her belly above him. She continued praying and suddenly... it happened! It was amazing, it was a miracle and I was really really happy to witness it.

A Good Choice

Pro choices proponents defend abortion claiming that in a difficult situation the best thing that a pregnant woman can do is have an abortion in order to have a better life, reaching their goals and doing whatever they want without anything holding them back.

A few days ago I met a woman who had a very complicated life. In her family there was a lot of violence, her father had problems with drugs and alcohol so she had a hard childhood. At the age of 18 she got pregnant, she told to her mother, they decided to have an abortion so they came into an abortion clinic. There the staff prepared her to do it, she was a little bit surprised because of the people that work there, they all looked unhappy and they were rude with her, she didn’t like the atmosphere. When she was lying on the table she got very nervous and she start to have doubts about having the abortion. Finally when she saw the baby on the sonogram she decided to have her baby, so she left the abortion clinic.

Eight years after this event, this woman has a great job and a great daughter who is studying in a good school. In conclusion she has a good live and she is a happy person too.

As far as I've observed, especially from this woman, I don’t believe that having a child in a hard environment ruins a life.

Happiness

The Constitution of the United States of America recognizes the right to pursue happiness.

If there is a commonality amoung the girls that decided not to have an abortion it is that they never regret their option; and with time they recognized that this decision makes them happy.

From what we've seen it seems that overall the people who decided not to have an abortion are happier than the ones who have had one.

Besides we can say that we are helping these women to reach the happiness. In other words our work is helping to make the objective of America’s Constitution to come true.

Why Did I do that?

During my first day in Queens I saw a few women. One of them is twenty four. She has a five years old child. She is pregnant for 7 weeks and she came for an abortion.

She has just broken up with her boyfriend so she was a bit annoyed. She is studying and also working. She was saying that she didn't want the child because it wasn't premeditated.
When she told that I was thinking that a baby shouldn't be a plan.
We showed her a few videos explaining what is the truth behind abortion.
This isn't an easy way. It has a lot of consequences that she didn't really know.

We ask her what she would do if somebody hurts her daughter and then she realize that she wanted to have the baby. She admits that the abortion was the best way to forget her boyfriend.

every one can help

They feel that the only option available to them is to have an abortion, because no one tells them that there is help for them. Many women don’t feel like they have a choice at all. No one lets them know that they have somewhere else to turn.

But there is an option, there are so many ways to help these women, counselling them, giving support to them, and also if it is not possible to do all of this, other people give money to finance all this work and this is as important as the other ways.

So now I realize that all the help that everyone can give is important to make it possible. And that is what people did when they donated money with the baby bottles for the mother’s and father’s day.

First days

I'm Maria, a new member of EMC, I've been here just one week. I study law and bussines at the UCM of Madrid. I’m the oldest of 7 children.

My little sister has Down Syndrome. She was born one year ago. At the beginning it was hard to accept but now we realize that our own plans are not always the best plans. My sister is the best thing that has happened to me.

A lot of women came to the center saying that they want to abort because a baby wasn’t in their plans. This point reminds me what we thought when my sister was born. In this life there are difficult situations and everybody needs support. I'm going to do my best in this work in the following weeks.
