abortion = contradictions

One day outside Dr. Emily's, a man walked out the back entrance of the clinic down the sidewalk alone. This is very common, where the men leave to go buy something to eat or have a smoke once the woman goes back into the operating room.

"Hey, can I talk to you for a minute?"I said and started to walk next to him. I asked if he had a girlfriend inside, and if he knew what abortion was. "Not really." I started to describe the procedure of abortion to him, what it would do to his baby and his girlfriend. He finally stopped walking to talk to me. He said that she couldn't have a baby, she was young and needed to finish college.

"It's her choice," he said. "Yes, legally," I said, "but your job as a man is to be a protector. Do you really want her to go through all that?" He said that we all had to live with the consequences of our decisions and some people are stronger than others. Then he made a comment about how his wife had a couple of abortions earlier in life and she'd been fine. I agreed with him that we have to live with our choices, but that's why we choose carefully.

"How old is your wife?" "Thirty-one."I told him that many women don't feel the pain of their abortion- or realize where that pain comes from- until many years later. She could be forty, fifty, sixty, and experiencing emotional trauma. And she might be holding many things inside right now that she's not telling him.

At this point, I was thinking, "Did I hear heard right? He said it's his girlfriend inside while meanwhile he had a 31-year-old wife and two kids??" But I decided not to question him on it because that's exactly what I heard; no doubt he was having an affair and was here to get rid of the evidence. At this point I just didn't want him to walk away from me.

After seeming to accept what I was telling him about abortion, he said, "Anyway, it's legal." He was African American and this opened up an opportunity for me. "Just because something is legal, that makes it OK? So if you're not allowed to sit on the bus with me or drink from the same water fountain as me, that's OK because it's the law? Back in the time of slavery in America, some people said 'If you don't want a slave, don't own one.' That's like saying 'If you don't want an abortion, don't have one.' So do you think that just because something is legal, that makes it right?"

At this he laughed nervously and shook his head, saying that I had a good analogy.

It's not usually easy to change somebody's mind about abortion in a ten-minute conversation on the sidewalk. But even if you make any progress, the people who are using abortion to get out of responsibility- or escape the sticky mess they've gotten themselves into- are usually still going to go through with it. This man honestly seemed to re-think some things while I was talking with him. But bottom line, if he was there to cover up an affair with a younger woman, then it was well worth it to him.

Such is the culture of abortion.

abortion = irresponsibility

Last week, I spoke to a young man outside Dr. Emily's who had an "ex" girlfriend inside.

He said he was 20 and his girlfriend was 17. (That's illegal.) He was supposedly not dating her anymore, but was there with her and her mother "to be supportive." He said he knew abortion was bad and he'd done his research, so he was aware of the consequences and what it looked like, but the girl wanted the abortion and he didn't want to rock the boat by anymore by trying to change her mind. (This was after first saying that the girl didn't want it and was being pressured by her mother.) He said he could have gotten a 2-year jail sentence because the relationship was legally statutory rape, and he knew that, so he wasn't pushing his luck.

This guy had apparently gotten a different girl pregnant when he was 15 and now had a 5-year-old son, so he knew what it meant to have a baby young. Speaking with him was very strange because at the same time he was admitting abortion was bad, he was saying "it's her choice" and "I warned her that she'd have to get up in the middle of the night to change diapers...she's just a kid...having a baby robs you of your childhood."

As he talked in circles and changed the topic to birth control and "protection," he told us that he didn't believe in birth control but that he had used a condom and said "it's not my fault if the condom didn't work." I told him that responsibility starts with the decision to have sex, because you can't trust birth control or condoms. I said "Do you have any idea how many people I talk to who have gotten pregnant while using birth control or condoms? What are you going to do if this happens again with somebody else?" He gave a "not my fault" shrug.

Then one of the girls standing with me told him, "a real man has self control." How true that statement is! Yet he just brushed it aside saying, "But I have needs, too." He was referring to that age-old lie that because men want sex, they need sex- regardless of the circumstances or consequences for the woman.

Needless to say, by the end of the conversation we were pretty convinced that he was an irresponsible sleazeball who was going to continue to get girls pregnant and bring them to abortion clinics. Nothing new there.

So after this guy had engaged in an illegal sexual relationship with a girl inside the clinic whom he clearly didn't even have respect for, much less concern for (based on the way he talked about her), she was inside getting rid of the evidence. I wondered, did she lie about her boyfriend's age, or did the clinic just ignore it? (That's protocol for abortion clinics- check out liveaction.org.)

How sad that this guy didn't learn his lesson the first time, at age 15. He was still being promiscuous, but he only had to "pay" for it with cash. The girl will have to pay for it with emotional and physical consequences that might affect her for the rest of her life.

the worst kind of pressure

Last week in one of our centers, I counseled a 17-year-old girl who was pregnant after only her second time having sex. She said that her mother wanted her to have an abortion, because "you're not supposed to get pregnant before you're married."

This girl attends her mother's church, which is extremely strict and judgmental in all the wrong ways. For instance, previous girls who had become pregnant before marriage were shunned by the entire church, and apparently her mother didn't want the public shame; people in the church had been telling her "your daughter is going to get pregnant," and now that has happened.

The girl's boyfriend wanted to keep the baby, and she knew she'd have support from her boyfriend's sister, her best friends family, and others. She was not struggling or living on her own. She had even formed a potential plan in her mind for how she would have the baby: finish high school this spring (she probably wouldn't show very much before graduation), take off school for next spring semester after giving birth, go back to school after next summer. Her only reasons for considering an abortion were that she was too young, she needs to finish school, and her mother told her to.

We talked a lot about the physical dangers and psychological consequences of abortion, as well as her personal religious values. After watching a video which shows an actual abortion procedure, she was horrified and said "I'd rather DIE than go through with that!!" By the end of our session, it seemed that she had exhausted all her excuses and knew the right thing to do. But she was still so scared to talk to her mother.

I contacted her recently to find out how she's doing and if she talked to her mom again. She said that she has to go through with it and has an appointment for this Tuesday, because her mother told her she has to. I reminded her of her words after watching the video, but she said that her mother reassured her.

Of all the cases I have seen and heard about girls being pressured into abortions, times when the parents are the ones pressuring are the worst. It is absolutely despicable for a parent to force his or her own child to do something which will forever change her and harm her, just to save face. This woman so craves the good opinion of her friends at church that she wants to sacrifice her own grandchild. What kind of a church is that?

I tried to explain to this girl that it's her choice, nobody can legally force her to have an abortion. And if her mother told her to jump off the empire state building, would she do it? No. But the thing is that we follow our parents more than anybody else. Even if we disagree, fight, or hate at times, we still crave the approval of our parents, and try to please them, and think that they know best. This is psychological and completely natural, which is why my frustration is entirely with the mother. Women are made to nurture; killing one's own child goes against that and killing one's grandchild is an extension of that perversion of nature.

Please pray for this anonymous girl, that she will have the strength to stand up for her child before Tuesday, and for the mother, that her eyes will be open to the reality that her grandchild has value and worth, despite the circumstances of its conception.

Emily versus Emily

When I talk to people about 40 Days for Life and then tell them my name, most of them do a double-take or make a joke about the fact that I have the same name as the fictional abortionist. (Not to mention the pro-choice Emily's List, "a national organization dedicated to electing pro-choice Democrats to office.") Yes, I tell them, I have to redeem my name!

The fact is, as far as we know there is no Dr. Emily at Dr. Emily's Women's Health Center. "Emily" is just a sweet, classic name  chosen to evoke a caring, welcoming atmosphere. It's called marketing. (I mean, no abortion clinic would pick the name "Dr. Lucifer Women's Health Center.")

Emily vs. Emily
Speaking of marketing, take a look at the Dr. Emily's two-page, full-color add in the phone book. The backdrop is a picture of a sandy beach and a woman peacefully looking out over the water. It advertises the abortion pill for a "natural, at-home experience" and "gentle [surgical] abortion" with "no-pain anesthesia." Have you ever seen a video of an abortion procedure?? It is incredibly rough and forceful- anything but gentle.

Abortion clinics, which are built on deception, obviously do everything they can to look warm and welcoming. But no amount of  euphemistic garbage can cover up the ugly reality: abortion is an intrinsic act of violence which kills children and harms women.

from joy to death

Last week while standing in front of Dr. Emily's, a man walking by stopped in front of us, looked up at the sign on the abortion clinic, and said, "I was born right across the street over there." He knodded to some apartment buildings. "When I was growing up in the 50's, this place [Dr. Emily's] was a movie theatre. You could watch three shows and fifteen cartoons for 25 cents." With that, the man walked away.

it does indeed look like the entrance to a movie theatre.
I looked at the woman I was standing with and we both shook our heads. "Wow," she said, "What was once a place of joy for children is now a place where they kill children."

There are all sorts of miserable ironies like this surrounding abortion clinics: At Dr. Emily's, women are given a lollipop after their abortion. At some abortion clinics, there is a play area for children during their mothers' appointments. At an abortion clinic in Montana, what appears to be baby quilts are hung in the windows instead of curtains.

The same day that man stopped to tell us what Dr. Emily's used to be, a woman also stopped to give her two cents. She was a little old Hispanic woman and she spoke passionately in Spanish.  She said that this place is terrible considering that her daughter has been trying for years to get pregnant and can't. "They should make this place into a daycare!" she said.

What a novel idea, to turn a place that kills children into a place that cares for them. Pray that someday, Dr. Emily's abortion clinic will go from being a place of death to a place of life.

Secret Shoppers

I used to work at a deli/bakery back home called Wheat Montana. We sold sandwiches, soup, pastries, etc, as well as loaves of Wheat Montana brand bread.

Frequently at work, the topic of "Secret," or "Mystery," Shopppers would come up. Secret Shoppers are people who are paid by a company to go into company stores to test and rate their products and services, such as ordering food from restaurants, buying shoes from shoe stores, etc. The Secret Shopper then fills out a form rating various details about his or her experience, turns it in to the company, and gets paid. (This is for real- I once applied to do it so I know.)

Every time somebody got wind that a Secret Shopper might be coming in the next few days, all the employees would be on their best behavior. We wanted good ratings & maybe even a special mention by name from the Secret Shoppers. If we got really bad ratings, we'd be in trouble and our jobs could be on the line.

If you're reading this blog, you've probably heard of Lila Rose. She's a young woman who started the organization Live Action, a group which does undercover investigations of Planned Parenthood to expose the abuse and lies inside its facilities. Through secret cameras hidden in the clothes of undercover agents, Lila's organization has discovered widespread coverups of statutory rape and child sex rings, racism, outright lies during counseling sessions, and on and on.

Of course, Planned Parenthood goes ballistic every time Lila puts out shocking new videos. They make excuses, say that she violated the clinics' privacy, deny the evidence, etc. They even started putting up posters with her picture on them inside every facility so that all the employees would know who to look for!

To me, Lila Rose and her co-investigators are like Secret Shoppers. All they're doing is testing out a product and pushing a few buttons to see how the employees will react, no different than the Secret Shoppers who came into my deli. The difference is, restaurants and shoe stores actually HIRE Secret Shoppers so that they can maintain the quality of their services and weed out all the bad employees. Planned Parenthood, on the other hand, wants nothing to do with the Secret Shoppers because it has a LOT to hide! PP is corrupt to the core and that's how it stays in business- obtaining secret abortions for minors, protecting abusers, and preying on minorities.

If Planned Parenthood actually cared about women, it would be elated every time Live Action comes out with a new video! Cecile Richards (CEO) would apologize publicly for her employees' behavior and thank Lila for discovering all the shocking things its employees are doing, so that she can fire them and get rid of corruption in her organization. Maybe she'd even try to hire Lila. But instead, Planned Parenthood plays the victim of....the truth?

Video footage doesn't lie, and Planned Parenthood is scared. The United States is beginning to learn what PP is really all about, and it's obviously not about helping women. Then again, what do you expect from an organization that makes money killing babies?

Strength in numbers

Several weeks ago, I joined with dozens of pro-life Catholics for a procession after a Mass to Planned Parenthood in Manhattan, where they prayed the Rosary for at least an hour. When we arrived, we stood in a long line directly across the street from the abortuary. Two escorts (fondly referred to as "deathscorts" by prolifers) stood in front of PP, waiting to escort customers inside or open the door for them. Deathscorts are commonly volunteers from the hardcore pro-choice community, and some are paid full-time.

At first, one of the deathscorts pointed and counted with her fingers how many of us there were- I think around 40- and acted sarcastically impressed with our numbers. Although she wore a confident smug look on her face, I couldn't help but think how uncomfortable she must be inside. Two versus forty! They were quite outnumbered.

Later on, another worker began to take pictures of us, and then video, with her camera. This is a very common intimidation tactic used by clinic workers and pro-choice protesters all over the country. At this point I had to contain my laughter because some of the pro-lifers were also taking a bunch of pictures and videos of our group! None of use minded the cameras, so the deathscort's attempt to bug us was futile.

Seeing the deathscorts so outnumbered reminded me just how pathetic they are. They are probably seeking justification for past choices by doing this job, but all that abortion can offer is more death, lies, and misery. They are proud of what they do, but I just felt extremely sorry for them.

strength in numbers.
Beyond the fact that the deathscorts had to listen to repetitive prayers for an hour, I think something else must have bothered them: our numbers. They were outnumbered twenty to one. It's practically part of their job description to act intimidating, but in this situation it was useless. Surely they must have been just a little scared, deep down inside; If I was in their shoes, I would have been terrified! And as for me, I have never felt more confident in front of an abortion clinic than when I was part of a wall of people praying.

The phrase "strength in numbers" is SO true. With numbers, especially outside of abortion clinics, we are safer, more powerful, more confident, and ultimately we can have more of an impact. The area surrounding an abortion clinic is a spiritual battleground. God's army is always bigger than the Devil's- may our numbers reflect that!

How YOU can end abortion in your town.

40 Days for Life begins this week.

If you have never participated in 40 Days for Life before, now is the time to try it. 40 DFL is an international campaign of prayer and peaceful vigil in front of abortion clinics across the country (and world) during the 40 days of Lent. It consists of individuals volunteering their time, committing to pray outside the abortion clinic for a specific block of time each week (such as every Wednesday from noon-2). At many of the 258 abortion clinics across the world where 40 DFL will be taking place this season, there will be a presence of Christians praying 24/7.

“But...in front of an abortion clinic? You mean... an actual clinic where they do the actual abortions?? That sounds a little extreme. That's not for me. I'm fine praying at home, thank you very much.”

Is that what you're thinking? If it is, you're not alone. There are thousands of pro-life people who feel exactly the same as you, which is why they are not standing in front of abortion clinics, which is why the abortion clinics in their towns are not closing.

Let me ask you something. If the clinic down the street was killing two-year-olds instead of two-month-olds, would you be praying inside your house? If the clinic down the street was filled with gas chambers and was gassing Jews on a daily basis, would you be praying inside your house? Or would you be praying at the site of the atrocity?

“But that's different. Killing two-year-olds? Gassing Jews? That's crazy.”

You know what else is crazy? Killing preborn babies, who are the most innocent and defenseless of us all. Abortion is genocide on such a massive scale that we absolutely cannot afford to think or pray about it from the comfort of our own homes. We need to be present at the scene of the crime.

In the past five years since the inception of 40 Days for Life, 61 abortion clinic workers have quite their jobs! Although most of us have only heard of Abby Johnson, the now-famous former Planned Parenthood clinic director who quite her job a couple of years ago and became a public figure after speaking openly about her conversion. That is in addition to over 5,000 abortion-bound women changing their minds and 21 abortion clinics closing down forever. All that, simply from the power of prayer... in front of abortion clinics.

Don't have time? You have time for your favorite TV show and the evening news.

Don't like being a protester? No problem, because 40 Days for Life isn't a protest!

Don't want to talk to anybody going inside the clinic? You don't have to.

Don't want to be seen by your friends? Praying for an end to the greatest human rights abuse of our time is something to be proud of, not ashamed of.

Don't want to go outside your comfort zone? Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "Do one thing every day that scares you." It's good for you, and God will give you courage.

Get over the excuses and get outside, even just to try it once. Standing outside an abortion clinic is a powerful experience because the spiritual warfare is RIGHT THERE. You can feel it. And you'll be want to go back again and again.

I'm probably going to be outside praying close to 40 hours a week for the next 40 days. How many hours can you commit to?

Post-Abortion Syndrome... take the abortion doc's word for it

The abortion rights movement routinely denies that abortion has any negative or dangerous physical and psychological effects. We as pro-lifers know that this is not true, that abortion leaves countless physical and emotional scars. Thousands are speaking out about the effects that abortion had on them, and we have no idea how many who have been hurt are NOT speaking out.

Broadly categorized, the mental and psychological problems caused by abortion are known as Post-Abortion Stress Syndrome (PASS) or Post-Abortion Syndrome (PAS). PAS, although not recognized by the American Psychological Association (because that would not be politically correct), is a very real form of trauma which has many symptoms in common with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is like a specific form of PTSD. Some symptoms are: extreme depression, feelings of guilt and anxiety, drug and alcohol abuse, nightmares, flashbacks, phobias of things such as the sound of a vacuum cleaner or medical facilities, difficulty with relationships, eating disorders, feelings of numbness, desire to have another baby to replace the aborted child, over-protectiveness or overindulgence of future children to make up for the abortion, inability to function around babies or pregnant women, self-injury, suicidal thoughts, etc.

The pro-choice movement goes to great lengths to discount PAS. The websites of organizations such as the Guttmacher Institute (the research arm of Planned Parenthood), Feminists for Choice, National Abortion Federation, National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL), etc. all do their part to debunk the anti-choice myth of PAS. I suppose they think pro-lifers enjoy making this stuff up for fun?

I was recently privileged to take a look at an abortion procedure consent form that somebody retrieved from a local abortion clinic. The following is a selection from it (emphasis mine):

“My physician has fully explained the risks, and drawbacks involved as well as the possibility of complications from the procedure, including but not limited to possible; perforations of the uterus, incomplete termination of the pregnancy, removal of the uterus and/or ovaries, difficulty in future pregnancies, post abortion syndrome, cervical laceration, adverse reactions to medicines or anesthesia, absence of menstruation, pain and cramps, excessive bleeding, psychological problems and infection, and the benefits of the procedure. We have also discussed alternatives including no treatment; to the procedure along wit those risks and benefits. I am aware that no guarantee or assurance as to the results of the procedure have been made and I have been told that no guarantee of results could be made. By signing this consent, I agree that all the foregoing has taken place to my satisfaction.”

I'd say they have their bases covered, wouldn't you? The list isn't quite comprehensive, but it's pretty good. They even go beyond “post abortion syndrome” to also list “psychological problems” (though I'm not sure why the latter is grouped with infection).

There you have it, folks... even abortion clinics know that PAS exists. I wonder if NARAL would take their word over ours.

Chastity....it's all about freedom.

Recently while I was training at one of our centers, I sat in on a counseling session of a very young girl who had come in for a pregnancy test. She'd actually been in for a test some weeks before, but wanted to be sure so we agreed to give her another. She and her boyfriend were both relieved that she wasn't pregnant.

The girl- let's call her Megan- was 15 and her boyfriend was 16. They were both darling kids and obviously adored each other. Our counselor spoke to her alone, and began by asking her a few questions about her life and situation. She was very quiet and looked away shyly at first, but finally opened up to the counselor's warm and friendly personality. At this point we discovered something very surprising- she and her boyfriend were both virgins! But because they had become more intimate and had some sort of sexual mishap, Megan wasn't sure if she could have gotten pregnant or not and she was hearing conflicting opinions from her friends. Her paranoia led her to our center- twice.

The counselor began to talk with Megan about her relief at finding out that she wasn't pregnant, about how she wasn't ready to have a baby in her life, and how having a sexual relationship with her boyfriend could lead to a baby, because babies are the natural consequence of sex. Then he spoke about the one and only way ensure that you never get pregnant- abstinence.

As the counselor began to elaborate on the benefits of abstinence before marriage, Megan listened intently with trusting blue eyes wide open, as if she felt that the counselor was her big brother. He gently explained about the unnecessary burdens of a sexual relationship, especially for someone so young. Sex is like duct tape- it emotionally binds two people together with the "Love Hormone" oxytocin, and breaking off that relationship is an emotional ripping apart. And it has much more of an effect on girls than on guys. Chastity, on the other hand, creates freedom...freedom from unnecessary worries, emotions, babies, STD's.

"You have your whole life ahead of you!" he said. And again something along the lines of, "You are a princess... you deserve the best. You deserve to share this with someone who is going to love you for the rest of your life." The counselor told her about those of his female friends who are saving themselves for their spouse, and how amazing it is to see the level of respect they have for themselves and others have for them. They are so incredibly happy when they get married, he said.

When the counselor finished, he looked at Megan, smiled, and said with a laugh, "Now that we've said alllll that, do you think we're completely crazy?" "No, no!" she assured us. "I really liked what you said." She was extremely happy to have talked with the counselor and was very thankful for all the information. "After being so worried that I was pregnant, I don't really feel like doing any of that stuff anymore."

Like the vast majority of kids in New York City, it seems, she had never heard a chastity message before, and it had probably never even crossed her mind that such a lifestyle even existed! Although we will never know what choice she made after she left our center, we gave her a choice. We created an alternate path for her by opening her eyes to information that she'd never heard before. It was undoubtedly the first- and possibly the last- time for her to hear such a message. And I could see immediately the benefit of her having this kind of conversation with a man.  As she left, I silently prayed that she would never forget that honorable guys like that really do exist.

Planned Parenthood, round II

A little-known fact about Planned Parenthood is that it was founded by a racist eugenicist, Margaret Sanger. Sanger was part of an elite group of eugenicists whose vision was essentially the same as Hitler's, and she even spoke at at least one Klu Klux Klan meeting. I cannot respect any organization that was founded on racism with a goal of wiping out the African American race along with other minorities and "imperfect" people- and which remains racist to this day, targeting African Americans for abortions. Here in New York City, 60% of black babies are aborted. According to the 2006 census, African Americans are not replacing themselves and are in danger of extinction by 2100, thanks to abortion.

This is an extremely important aspect of the pro-life movement to be educated on, because regardless of a person's opinion about abortion, he or she cannot debate history- and so it's a great way to open up discussion about Planned Parenthood. Most people, even pro-lifers, don't have any idea of the depth of corruption in this organization's roots. It is important to understand that PP was not founded on "women's rights" but on an agenda of ethnic cleansing for the United States. Below are some great informative websites to get started:

Margaret Sanger's "Negro Project":

Margaret Sanger:

overview of current PP racism by Alveda King, the niece of MLK, Jr:
http://www.priestsforlife.org/africanamerican/blog/index.php/blacks-face-racial-challenge-from-abortion

PP accepting racist donations:

For the full story, I highly recommend an excellent documentary about the founding of Planned Parenthood and eugenics in the USA called "Maafa21." It's very long but extremely fascinating and informative. I challenge anybody to say that Planned Parenthood was NOT founded on racism and eugenics after watching this film. It is available to order at maafa21.com, or in segments on on youtube:

Planned Parenthood, round I (a.k.a. handy dandy PP fact sheet)

In the midst of the controversy surrounding Planned Parenthood's federal funding, here is my own two cents...

there is absolutely no justification for supporting an organization which makes money (regardless of the amount) by killing babies- NONE. No amount of other services that Planned Parenthood provides is worth the life of a single innocent child being ripped apart in its mother's womb.

To say that the good Planned Parenthood does outweighs its evil is like saying that the good the Nazis did outweighed their evil. “Sure- Hitler may have killed 11,000 people in concentration camps, but hey, he built great roads and he sure fixed the economy!” I don't buy that, and neither can I accept any disguise for an organization which kills more than 1.1 MILLION preborn children worldwide each year.

Aside from asking how anybody can defend the biggest abortion business in the entire world, and through that, defend the reprehensible act of abortion itself, I will ignore abortion altogether. I will not even talk about abortion when listing the multitude of corruptions found in Planned Parenthood. So here is just a sampling of reasons (with links for more detailed info) that Planned Parenthood doesn't deserve a cent of taxpayer funding:

Planned Parenthood covers up statutory rape:

http://liveaction.org/monalisa

http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/archive/ldn/1970/51/7051605

...and child prostitution rings:

http://liveaction.org/traffick

Planned Parenthood breaks numerous laws:

PP claims that abortion is not the main focus of its services, yet it performs more and more abortions every year (http://exposeplannedparenthood.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Services-to-Women.jpg) and now it is mandating that all of its affiliates must perform abortions by 2013 (http://liveaction.org/blog/abby-johnson-three-planned-parenthood-deceptions/). PP is misleading about providing the service of mammograms (http://www.jillstanek.com/2011/02/cecile-richards-misleads-planned-parenthood-does-not-provide-mammograms/) and also misleading about the portion of its services which constitute abortions (http://liveaction.org/blog/planned-parenthood-presidents-abortion-claim-false/). Planned Parenthood does not prevent or reduce abortions (http://liveaction.org/blog/pps-new-abortion-numbers-going-nowhere-but-up/). PP is legally classified as a non-profit, but as anyone who works their rear end off in a non-profit knows (myself included), "non-profit" means you don't make a profit. But PP's financial reports indicate otherwise. For instance P.P. made a profit of $63 million dollars in its 2008-2009 fiscal year (http://www.lifeissues.org/pp/)!

Many claim that without Planned Parenthood, millions of women will have nowhere to turn to for basic healthcare. That statement is the equivalent of saying without Wendy's, I will have no access to hamburgers. This is the USA and there is an abundance of other affordable health clinics- for instance, the clinic I work for, which offers low-cost & also completely free services to anybody who can't afford it, but is non-profit and takes no government funding. Additionally, there are about 7,000 federally funded community health centers where people can go to get all the services which PP claims would be unavailable if they didn't exist:

Howdy!

My name is Emily Wilkinson and I'm from Montana. I found out about this internship one year ago at the Students for Life of America conference in Washington, D.C., and it has been a dream come true to be accepted into the program.

My parents were actively involved in the pro-life movement before I was born, and I've been attending pro-life rallies since I was an infant. During high school however, I began to feel drawn toward the issue; I had an urge to get more involved and formed a pro-life club at my high school. I went on to start more Students for Life clubs at the two campuses of Montana State University that I attended before graduating in December 2011. During the few years that I finished college in Bozeman, MT, I was privileged to be involved in the local pro-life movement in other ways: I worked part-time at a wonderful Pregnancy Resource Center, organized an annual March for Life, connected with the local Right to Life chapter, and met community members who pray at the area abortion clinic.

Other than being involved in pro-life activism, my interests are dancing (especially Latin, ballroom, and country), making and listening to music, road trips, photography, and meeting people from all over the world.

When I take a step back and think about this movement, it amazes me that we even need to be doing this work in the first place! It is really crazy that such a thing as abortion even exists, even more so that people profit off the lie of abortion and get away with ruining the lives of millions of unsuspecting women who have no idea of what's in store for them after abortion. This is truly a spiritual battle, and abortion, as some leaders have said, is the Devil's prize. It is the ultimate perversion and destruction of God's image because it targets the most innocent, the most pure of His creation. However, I believe there will be a day in the future when people will look back on the years of legal abortion the way that we currently look back on slavery and decades of racism- with shame and embarrassment that we tolerated such evil for so long.

I feel that pro-life activism may be my calling, and I'm extremely excited to be here for what feels like the next step in that path. Please pray for me!
