St. Michael, pray for us!

For a few days this week, I did some sidewalk counselling outside of 'Dr. Emily's' abortion clinic in the Bronx. It was interesting to note where the abortion clinic is situated; on one side stands a company with 'agape' (the Greek word for unconditional love) written on the sign, and on the other is a company with an image of St Michael the Archangel destroying satan on it. This really hit home for me, how the devil can work so casually in among every-day life. Many people will walk past Dr. Emily's having no idea of the horror that goes on in there.

Our job was to stand near the entrance and approach any woman who might be going in - not an easy job at all, and we had little success. We did manage to give out some leaflets, in the hope that they, or someone they know, might read it and find help. Around the back of the clinic, Alvaro managed to speak with one girl who was there with a friend; upon finding her unease with the idea of abortion, he directed her to the Bronx EMC clinic where she went and was put in contact with the necessary organisations that could offer help. A miracle indeed. Pray that she stays with the decision to parent, and is not pressurised into changing her mind again.

One aspect of sidewalk counselling that is quite difficult to get used to, is the presence of a security guard at the front of the building - A man sits on his chair with a yellow vest, does his crossword and stares (somewhat menacingly) at the prolifers. He did not have much of a problem with us, as we kept our distance and were by no means harrassing the women, however, if he noticed us talking to someone who was going in, then he would tell them to ignore us, and open the door and usher them in. If we had managed to give them a leaflet, he would take it from them, and bin it ... Clearly pro-abortion and not pro-'choice'.
When something good is occurring, (ie allowing women to assess all of their options), our enemy the devil has to up his game. (I am not saying the security guard is the devil, or that he is evil - just that his cooperation with something so detrimental to women, and everyone for that matter, is not a good thing for his soul.)
By opening the door for women, ushering them in, and binning what is probably the only piece of true information they may have that day, highlights how we must up our game too.
We need people standing at clinics.
We need good support systems.
We need prolife organisations.
We need the truth.
And as I've said before, we need prayers. Your prayers.

If you have the chance, please pray the St. Michael prayer - Perhaps offer it for the security guard and the clinic workers, that their minds and hearts may be open to God and that they might recognise the damage abortion does to thousands of women, men and children every day.

Tonight, in New York alone, 400 women could be thinking about their abortion they have booked for tomorrow. 400 women. Some will be old, some young. All scared. The fear of motherhood outweighs the fear of abortion, perhaps. Pray that those women will be given the opportunity to change their mind. Pray that someone on their journey tomorrow will give them hope, and that they will be treated with kindness and love. There is so much hurt already in this world, and tomorrow, in NY, another 400 lives may be lost, and countless more ruined. We can't let this keep happening.

Over and out.
God bless, Vx.

Our Lady of Gaudalupe, pray for us.
St Michael the Archangel, pray for us.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Amazing turn around

Last Monday I had one of the most wonderful days sidewalk counseling I could ever had.

It was my first days sidewalk counseling this summer. I was at the back door at Emily's abortion clinic praying the rosary, It was 10:00 am, the heat was burning, and suddenly two girls one of them carrying a baby, appeared in the sidewalk.

For the first second I was very nervous, so I decided to grab the rosary with my hand and talk to talk to them. Both girls were surprised that I stopped them. The one that was carrying the baby looked confused and scared. I gave her our panphlet and said 'hey, you don't really want to do this, there are other alternatives instead of this one. We can help you. Come to our office that is next to this clinic and will explain you how you can go forward and make the right decision'.

So afte talking to them they went straight to our office in the Bronx, that is so close to Emily's. Then I called one intern that was working at that time at the office to be ready for her, but the problem was she does not speak any spanish, so I had to go the office to keep talking to them.

I took the bus to the office and got there 20 minutes later. Once I arrived, they were waiting for me, and after half an hour later she decided to keep the baby!

Isn't that amazing? Thanks God that sent me to Emily's that morning so I could talked to one girl and her friend, I sent them to our office in the Bronx, and convience the lady to keep the baby and become a mother.

Urgent Prayers!!!

Urgent prayers!!

Last week I met a girl, who under circumstances, was being pressurised by doctors and lawyers to have an abortion. Today I spoke with her and she has an abortion booked for tomorrow morning at 11am. I'm currently in conversation with her, and trying to help. She says she wants the abortion as she wants a better life for her other kids. Im urging her to consider the possibility that there are alternatives, and that she doesn't need to sacrifice this baby to give a better life to her other children. Please will you all pray for this girl and her baby, that the Holy Spirit may guide her, and that tomorrow she does not go through with the abortion.

This last week I've been at the Queens office. We have been handing out pro-life newspapers as the office hasn't been as busy. It's tiring being out in the heat, for long periods of time, but it's worth it if the leaflet changes at least one persons mind.

Pope Francis last year said;

“I want the Church to go out into the streets, I want us to defend ourselves against all worldliness, opposition to progress, from that which is comfortable, from that which is clericalism, from all that which means being closed up in ourselves."

I think it is vital that pro-lifers are seen to be out evangelising and spreading the pro-life message. We need to enable people to see the beauty of life, and that can be achieved through prayer and action.

Thank you everyone for your continued prayers.

Saint Gianna Beretta Molla, pray for us.

Bella

Learning to let go.

Over the last week or so, the Brooklyn office has been pretty busy and I've gotten to be part of many victories as well as many tough cases.

I've recently had several clients in their 2nd trimester seeking an abortion. A few of these have been late term(20 weeks or more).

After doing everything I can to counsel these women and follow up with them, I'm left in a place of uncertainty. For example the girl I mentioned earlier this week who is now 24+ weeks (if still pregnant) hasn't responded to my calls or text so I have no idea whether she went through with it or not.

Even though it's really hard to face these things, it's really good for my faith. God is using it all to strengthen my trust in him and just to let go. All I can do is keep praying and trust the outcome to the Holy Spirit. There's only so much I can do, but I know God is so faithful and the victory belongs to him!

Some of us interns after a busy day in the Brooklyn office:

Defend Us In Battle!!

PRAYER TO
SAINT MICHAEL
THE ARCHANGEL

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

The last several days have been very trying for all of us at the LifeHouse. I have been talking with a few of the other interns and I found myself being lead back to this same thought on more than one occasion.  When we are doing good and doing the Will of God that means that we are not falling victim to the lies of Satan. As a result Satan has to try even harder to draw us away from God.

This week many of us have been discouraged by various clients and other factors  like our attempts to built a sense of community among each other so we can support one another. As we are facing various challenges and trying to band together,  Satan has been trying to tear us apart and create division among us. Why? Because we are accomplishing good and this makes him angry.

As we continue to do this work we can never forget that it is God's work that we are doing and so we need to put are trust in Him and He will give us the grace and strength we need to accomplish His Will. Whether we are struggling with problems on the streets, in the the office, or in our personal lives they are are a part of Satan's plan to discourage us and prevent us from doing good. HOWEVER, God is loving and merciful and He is looking out for us and will help, if we only take the time and ask.

Fourth of July!

Hi, hope everyone had a blessed 4th of July yesterday!

Today, and on Thursday I was in the Queens office with Sunny. Please keep in your prayers the women who came in. One woman whom we tried to help was adamant that she was to have an abortion, and nothing we could say could possibly sway her to the option of keeping her baby. She only asked if we could give her the abortion pill there and then. Please pray that we have helped her in some way, and that she changes her mind before it is too late. Also, another woman had three children all under the age of four, and with the youngest still in nappies, and no support, she was struggling to find a solution apart from abortion.

Yesterday, as it was a holiday, a few of us decided to explore Manhattan. In the sadness of the 911 memorial, I witnessed something hopeful. Along with the names of those who passed away in the twin towers, a woman was listed along with her 'unborn baby'.

If only other babies in the womb were recognised as having the same dignity and right to life as this baby, then abortion would not exist. The Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004, in US law, recognises a child in utero as a legal victim, if he or she is injured or killed during the commission of any of over 60 listed federal crimes of violence. Therefore, the 164,000 abortions that happen on average every year in NYC simply based on social and financial reasons cannot be justified.

Please continue to keep those women in your prayers who struggle to recognise the miracle of life, that they may be filled with the Holy Spirit and be given the strength and courage to continue with their pregnancy and find joy in the birth of their baby. And that politicians and policy makers throughout the world recognise ALL life, from the womb to natural death.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend! God bless.

What They Fought and Died For

I was given a wonderful opportunity to visit Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown at the best time of the year with the celebration of our Independence. Among all these places the thing that really struck me was when we were watching some reenactments of men were firing guns and cannons. The noise and smoke from just the muskets alone would be enough to make me really think twice about being there on the front lines. I could not even imagine fighting against a formidable foe like the British army and then add in the cannons. I don't know how I could continue the fight.

But then there is Freedom. When you have a cause and purpose to the fight, when you are fighting for something good and true then it all makes sense; it is all worth the fight. Those men did not only believe freedom was a good thing, but it truly is good. Not only that, but it is something that all men should have and so it is worth the sacrifice of pain, suffering, and even death. Those men knew this and that is what helped them to continue the fight.

When I think and reflect on this I feel ashamed when I am afraid to go out on the streets and fight for the cause that I believe and know is right and good. I do not have to hear the roar of cannons and gunfire in my battles, and I don't have a constant battle with death... but yet I hesitate. Why?

As I am constantly reminded, I am fighting in a battle, a battle against evil. This evil can be very frightening at times, but I have to remind myself why I am in this fight and Who is on my side. Through prayer and the grace of God our side will emerge victorious in the end.

Milagro haitiano

Please storm heaven

We had a lovely day off yesterday to enjoy the 4th of July. We visited the beautiful 9/11 memorial in Manhattan. Around the outside are the names of those who died; women who were pregnant at the time were remembered by their name followed by 'and her unborn child'. It is heartbreaking to note that if the death of the unborn occurs at the hands of a doctor who is paid for taking their life, then they are defined as a 'blob of cells'. No mourning or grieving is allowed. The lie of abortion masks the truths we know deep down - the unborn child is precious and should be safe in their mothers womb.

I really thought no-one would come into the clinics the morning after Independence day, so I was surprised when 3 women all came within the space of 30 minutes! I realised the importance of being open on Saturday mornings when we arrived at the Brooklyn clinic. 2 Planned Parenthood volunteers were standing at the door to the building to escort women in - there are two abortion providers in the same building as the EMC clinic. A scary thought. At the same time we are trying to give women alternatives, 3 floors down, lives are being taken, broken and ruined.

Another intern and I spoke to the women, one of whom I'd like to tell you about so you can (please) pray for her:

Margaret* is pregnant with her fourth child, and has a medical condition that makes her really sick every time she is pregnant, and wants an abortion because of it. Another intern counselled her and asked if she believes in God, which she does. Unfortunately, the woman still wants an abortion, but was thankful that Hannah had prayed for her and would continue to do so. We really think that if her sickness lifted, she might reconsider and have the child. As I said in my last post, prayer is powerful, and even the fact that she knows we are praying for her might lift her spirit a little.  The strange thing is that she was in a few weeks ago and one of the new interns at the time at scheduled at sonogram appointment for her today - a service not offered on Saturdays. So she shouldn't really have come in at all, but for some reason she did ... This is a real opportunity to storm heaven - this child needs prayers, but so does the mum - who knows what short and long term effects an abortion would have on her. Her sickess now will last a maximum of 9 months, if she gets the abortion, that could have a more negative impact on her life. Please pray with us for her.

Over and out.
God bless, Vx.

Our Lady of Gaudalupe, pray for us.
St Michael the Archangel, pray for us.

  *not her real name

Two for the Price of One. [twins!]

This week was a victorious one! On Wednesday, in the Brooklyn office, 4 clients changed their mind to keep their child. One of those girls did so after the sonogram because she saw that she is pregnant with not one baby, but with two!! She's having twins!!
It was such a delight for me to sit with her after the sonogram and hear her say that she just couldn't see how she could abort now because "getting rid of two babies is too much".

It's amazing to me how the overwhelming task of raising a child can stand as the excuse for someone wanting to abort and yet when it turns out to be twins...aka potentially double the work...suddenly the challenge of it is not longer a factor in the decision.

God works in wonderous ways doesn't he?! :)

Calling All Men

Earlier this week I spent some time on the streets for the first time doing sidewalk counseling. I have been in front of an abortion clinic many times, but just to pray and doing peaceful protests. Trying to counsel the women is a different experience and can be much more trying mentally and emotionally.

Before I stood in front of the clinic my biggest concern was trying to deal with angry women and not knowing the best thing to say to the women who were walking in and out of the clinic. After spending a few hours on the streets I was surprised by my interactions with the men during that time.

I had been confronted by two men while praying and counseling on the street who had some interesting (and not so pleasant) things to say to me. I also spent some of the time accompanied by the escort for Planned Parenthood who was a man. He did not say anything to me during that time, but this did make me think and reflect a little on the role of men in this whole culture of death.

We have been so focused on women, and women's rights, that we don't stop and think about the fathers in these cases... it does takes two to Tango. We have to remember to pray for these women and the men, too. We are losing a child, a mother, and a father every time an abortion is performed.

Lord please watch over and guide all those fathers who struggle with idea of an abortion. Help these men to live up to their nature and fight for the truth... and for LIFE!

L's First Blog

Hi everyone, I'm Laura, one of the new interns at the EMC centres. I've flew all the way from Scotland to help join the fight for life in NYC.

After a momentous 3 days of travelling around airports, Vanessa - the other new Scottish intern- and I finally reached New York City last night to begin our 2 month EMC Pro-Life Internship.

This summer will present new challenges. Vanessa and I are actively pro-life, and have been truly encouraged and inspired by the Sisters of the Gospel of Life back home, where for the last two summers we helped work at the Cardinal Winning Pro-Life Initiative in Glasgow. During that time I came to realise how vital it was to spread the pro-life message, and the experience with the Srs really gave me the energy and passion to help further the cause.

Today was my first day at one of the centres. I sat in on two clients, and was really moved by the first client and her turnaround. She came into the clinic planning on having an abortion, however by the end of the session, was talking about keeping her baby. In that moment I definitely witnessed the power of prayer of those praying for the pro-life cause. The second client had a sonogram, and I was completely moved listening to the heartbeat of the 6 week old baby. However she  left undecided, so please pray that she recognises the sacredness and dignity of her unborn child, and that she finds the courage to continue with her pregnancy.

Today has been tiring, however witnessing the courage and determination of the pro-life movement at the front line has completely re-energised my fight. I feel ready to take on the challenge ahead. St John Paul II said :

"Never tire of firmly speaking out in defense of life from its conception and do not be deterred from the commitment to defend the dignity of every human person with courageous determination."

Thank you for taking the time to read my first ever blog! Please join me in reading my blogs over the next 8 weeks as I begin this new journey, and in the fight to give the unborn a chance at life!

God bless.

Baby bottles

Some days I help to collect baby bottles from  churches all around Manhattan, The Bronx and Brooklyn.

It takes us a lot of time because first we need to call all the parishes we sent the empty baby bottles before, so after they confirm us they have recieved donations from all the generous people that want to help this great organization and its goal, that its help mothers and save babies, then we can go and pick them up.

Last week in total we went to 15 churches, so more or less we have recieved more than 1.500 baby bottles full of donations.

On the picture below you can see how the procedure consists. We send 100 baby bottles to each parish with a panphlet inside each baby bottle wich explains all the information from EMC, our work and needs for continuing saving lifes.

Thank you for your time and hope you can help us continuing this amazing cause.

God bless you all.

WILLIAMSBURG

Nice week in Williamsburg, We have learnt a lot of interesting things and history.

Why not?

http://youtu.be/_N6ri3vcRoc
Andrea Bocelli could had been aborted

URGENT: PLEASE PRAY!

I just had a client come in at 23 weeks and 2 days along. She remained set on abortion with no apparent sign of being torn in her decision at all.

Based on the law in NY she would need the abortion by 24 weeks so she doesn't have much time. However she sat in the office and calculated to make sure she could get it in time.

Please pray her heart changes and please pray also that she would not be able to fit in a procedure in time before the law goes into effect. Granted...clinics don't always follow the law ...but she at least knows the law so maybe that will stop her.

A letter from an unborn baby

I read this letter few weeks ago and I think that every pregnant woman should read before making any decision. Remember: your Baby is alive since the moment it is conceived.

A letter from an unborn baby

Hi mom!,
how are you?, I am doing just fine thanks.
Only a few days have gone by since I was conceived and I am now growing in your tummy.
To tell you the truth I can’t explain how happy I am to know that you are my mom.
It also makes me proud to know that I was conceived out of love.
I am sure I am going to be the happiest baby alive.
Mommy, a month has gone past and I have started to notice how my body is forming. I know I am not much to look at now but just wait and see I’ll make you so proud! Even though I am feeling happy I sense something is wrong!…
You seem to be having strange thoughts that leave me restless and worried, but I am sure everything is going to be ok! Don’t despair.
Two and a half months have gone by mom, I now have hands that  I can use to play with. Oh I am so happy.
Mommy, please tell me what’s wrong? Why are you crying so much lately?
Why do you and dad argue every time you meet up with one another?
Don’t you guys want me anymore? I’m going to do everything I can to make you want me…
3 months have now past mom, but you still seem to be so sad. I am not sure what is going on, I am so confused.
Today we went to see the doctor and he booked an appointment for you tomorrow.
I don’t understand why I am feeling so good and you aren’t mom!
Mommy, where are we going?, What’s happening?
Mommy, this is not normally the time you take your afternoon nap, don’t lie down. Besides I am not tired I still want to play.
Uh!!! What is this thing doing inside of my house?
Is it a new toy?!
Hey! It’s sucking up my house…
Please…, don’t tug at me! No…. Don’t hit me you hurting me?!
Can’t you see I’m still small I can’t defend myself!
Mommy!!! Stop them, that’s  my hand!!!
Mommy, my leg, they ripping it out!!!
Defend me mom!!!
Help me mom!!!
Tell them to stop, I promise I’ll stop kicking them if they do.
How is it possible that a human being can be doing this to me?
Oh mommy, I can’t go on anymore… he…lp me…
17 years have gone by since you made that fateful decision. How you still suffer over the very thought of it.
Please don’t cry, remember that I love you and I’ll be waiting for you with open arms.
Love you lots!!!
Your baby.

Last friday in front of PP:

18 weeks

Yesterday one woman came to the office in Queens, she didn't know if she were pregnant or not because her period used to be not regular, but we did the pregnancy test and we calculated that she is now in the 18th week of her pregnancy.

We have to wait until the next week to know exactly how far is this woman in her pregnancy, but I want to explain how is the fetal development in the 18th week.

Sometimes the mothers doesn't know all those things about the fetal development, but with 18 weeks:

Can you believe he's yawning, hiccuping, sucking and swallowing?

And she's twisting, rolling, punching and kicking, too -- and she's big enough that you might be able to feel her doing it!

Baby's kicks -- they're getting stronger!

Swollen feet and/or hands. An annoying pregnancy symptom, but nothing to worry about as long as the swelling isn't sudden or severe.

Back aches. Baby's putting a lot of pressure on your insides.

Leg cramps. They can be a sign of dehydration, so drink up!

Varicose veins, a product of all that extra pressure on your circulatory system.

Trouble sleeping. Your mind is working overtime and you're getting more and more uncomfortable.

Increased pressure on the veins in your nose may be causing nosebleeds.

I'm back once again

Hey there its me again!

I am back! I do not know if you remeber me.

Last summer was my second time working for EMC and I worked in Miami. Now its my third  doing this amazing internship.

I am very excited, even more than last summer! Even though I worked so hard and had so much fun in Florida, I am very happy this time that I am going to stay the whole summer in NYC, knowing I will be counseling and helping women at the capital of abortion, and that I would have more time to visit all the offices located in here and try to do some fundrasing.

This time I am going to do my best.

Wish me luck!!

Part IV: From Bleecker St. to a Miracle on Court St.

'Saving Person Zoë'

Once at our centre, Angela had a sonogram which confirmed she was 7 weeks pregnant. Both mum- and dad-to-be saw the baby on screen - a kind of one-way silent sonographic skype - until we listened to baby "Zoë's" heartbeat. Her heart had already been beating for 4 weeks, since she was just 21 days old. Theo was captivated and fell in love with the baby all over again. Angela was moved but baby Zoë's reprieve had not yet been secured.

A post-sonogram consultation followed. During this time, I sensed that Angela was wavering in her thusfar implied decision to keep the baby. When Kathy stepped into the consultation room momentarily and enquired "So, are you going to keep (the baby)?", I wasn't at all convinced by Angela's uncertain monosyllabic answer.

Moreover, even had we still been at 75% in favour sparing Zoë abortion, we're weren't "over the line", so to speak: the front-line battle was taking place within Angela.

There remained further processing, reconciling and discernment for her to do and there was a complex interplay of the the audio-visual wonder she'd seen on the sonogram, the info. I'd imparted, my reasoning, her original rationale for her decision, my silent prayers, her opposed head and heart, and her awakening conscience, all under the auspices of The Holy Spirit.

She became firm again - seamlessly and through the Grace of God - in her decision to let Zoë live and and to raise her with Theo, before our consultation ended.

Operation save baby Zoë: mission (in its truest sense) accomplished!!
A MIRACLE on Court. Street!!!

Subsequently, Angela contacted The Sisters of Life and had an appointment with them for a few days later. I remain in contact with both Angela and Theo. Please pray for them and all mothers, babies and fathers whom we have met these past few weeks, and those we'll meet in days and weeks to come.

Victory! When all you have to do is show up.

Yesterday I spent the morning sidewalk counseling and praying outside planned parenthood. I had some good conversations but no obvious turnarounds...that is until the very end.

I was about to head out when a girl leaving the clinic approached me and asked me for a brochure. I don't think any of us had talked to her when she went in, yet something amazing happened. It turned out that she had gone in for an abortion, had changed her mind inside, and was looking for help finding a place to live since her mom wanted her to have the abortion and would kick her out otherwise.

Obviously we were delighted at her request and immediately got her connected to the Sisters of Life so she could find the housing she needs.

The thing that got me about this encounter was how little I did and how much the Holy Spirit did. I had spent the morning mostly praying and God really showed himself in a powerful way.

Please pray for this girl though as there are  pressures to abort even though she changed her mind.

The Small Victories

As I have had the opportunity to council more and more women, I have begun to realize that it is the small victories that really matter. I began this internship telling myself that I was going to try my best to have the women that I talk with change their heart and decide to keep their child; I was going to save lives.

After a few weeks here I began to realize that it is more important that I save souls and plant a seed of truth. This seed will need to be nurtured and watched over as it grows. But unless that seed is planted, one can never hope to see it become a beautiful flower.

At first, I wanted to plant the seed and take care of it as it began to blossom and grow. However, as strange as it may seem, this was actually selfish of me. God has given me a task to accomplish and that task is to plant that seed. Without that seed, others can not water and care for the flower as it begins to mature and grow. Until I realized this, I would beat myself up if I did not have a great victory that day which then lead to discouragement. Then I would not trust in God and allow Him to do His work.

Working at the Bronx office
Thankfully in this discouragement I turned to God in prayer... and then I was given the strength to do some good. It was then that I met with success, but success in small doses. I began to realize that I was doing so much more good if I focused on God and strove to accomplish things in smaller steps.

I have had many women come to me and say that they are absolutely going to have an abortion. After talking with them, and lots of silent prayers in between, I have been able to get them to leave doubting whether an abortion is really a good choice. Even if I have not been successful in getting them to leave saying that they will keep the child, I still feel some peace knowing that I did everything that I could and now they see some of the truth. The next step for me is to trust in God and allow Him to watch over this beautiful flower as it blossoms.

first week

My first week here has been wonderful, I haven't stopped since I arrived last wednesday. Beisbol, sixflag park and an amazing weekend in Cape May, New Jersey, one of the most beautiful village that I have ever seen.. I have also started to work and to be in contact with the hard reality of abortions in New York. This is my first photo, In which I am giving information about abortion alternatives in front of Queens office.
